I agree, that was a surprisingly compassionate article. The author's own experience of suicide no doubt plays an important role in this. I wish journalists and other writers would address the real problem, though. If we didn't live in such a callous society, if people simply had some basic empathy, if everyone was given the support and treatment they need, and if people weren't judged simply for being different, the members of this forum would have been easily counted.

Avoid speculation of causes or simplistic explanations.

And they are inclined to think, about a suicide, that no fight was involved, that somebody simply gave up. This is quite wrong.


This right here is the kind of debate we need regarding suicide. Nuanced, compassionate and ready to challenge established truths.
