How do people choose jumping to ctb?

My first plan was to jump but after seeing videos and aftermaths of people failing and ending up in more critical and painful conditions, I could never understand how people could be so brave to do it despite the huge risks. Maybe they have no other choice, I hate how ctb is so hard and people have to turn to painful methods it really breaks my heart ):

It's definitely an effective method, the success rate is in the 90s percentage range if you fall from a height high enough. However I also opted out of it in preference for hanging. Like you I've also seen too many stories of people surviving and being in immense pain. Working up the courage to jump is hard enough, and just the thought that I could survive makes me give up on it.

It's disheartening how people have to resort to such inhumane methods, because of this cruel society lacking minimal compassion for anyone. In the aims of "helping people" they place restrictions on the relatively peaceful methods and therefore forcing us to use agonizing and possibly dangerous methods. I wish they'd realize that restricting suicide methods or resources is not helpful in the slightest but rather makes things worse by tenfold.
To answer the question, people manage to jump because of lack of hope and desperation. This applies for every inhumane method, actually.

As @LaVieEnRose said it is often about lack of choice or impulsive, but also for me because of the backout point with each method.
With jumping, you back out before the act has begun, or go through with it.
With other methods, like taking an overdose, or hanging or CO, you can backout before or after the act has begun.
So the cut off point for changing your mind with jumping is more defined.

Those who managed to succeed had access to somewhere high enough and they had the courage for that method. I envy those who managed to succeed but it's horrifying how trying to die in such a way could go wrong if one jumps from somewhere not high enough. It disgusts me how people are denied a peaceful and guaranteed way to die without risks and complications.

i agree, society just acts so entitled and they want to feel good about themselves only, "i'm such a good person, i help people prevent suicide!!", like go fuck yourself, tbh and then people like us end up with complicated and scary methods that require money/time/immense courage
If I'm reading this correctly, the Y axis is the lethality of the method whilst the X axis is its frequency. Jumping looks to be about 10% of all attempts. It wouldn't be my method of choice at all.

This is good but does it take into account how well researched people are going into it? Thanks to this community we are more knowledgeable about the best height to jump at as well as the best way to succeed with any method.

I think people that choose jumping have a different chemistry in the part of the brain that controls fear and computes intensity of pain. I think the daredevils that parkour across buildings or free climb mountains are built the same way.

As you know I've chosen jumping as my method. I could easily purchase a gun. Jumping holds no special meaning or anything. It just seems like the least amount of effort. My ex-girlfriend never let me have a gun in the house because she knew I would probably use it on myself. So jumping it is. Plus I'm in my 50's so I feel like I am less emotional about the whole thing. It will still be scary as fuck, but oh well so is life. The pain is the least of my worries. I don't believe I will feel any pain on impact. If I'm wrong then so be it. Some things we just can't know. I think I have less than a week.

I think the ease and swiftness of this method is well worth it for anyone that can muster up the will power. If this is your last week, I hope it is at the very least a decent one for you my friend.

in my post-soviet country majority live in very tall blocks, guns are hard to get and sn can be hit or miss but most people dont know about it. And it requires you to just jump(even easier if you get drunk) and theres no going back while hanging and cutting can theoretically be stopped sometimes. Mostly an availability issue i believe because heights are fucking terrifying and fear of botching is too. if i didnt have sn i would find a block (panelka) with around 20 stories because i want no space for fuckups. Go all in or go home. But i hope sn does the job and my departure is as smooth as possible.
Either availability, or just because it appeals to them for some odd reason. I know someone who, at one point, was insistent on jumping specifically even though they had access to firearms and drugs. While guns are the most appealing to me personally, jumping is second place in my opinion, I want something that's instant, gory and doesn't leave any room for revival.
