Hospital emergency contact

For those of you that work in that field, say you survive an attempt and are concious at the moment the staff is working on saving your life, if you say to not contact family members, do they legally have to oblige? I would assume that if you're not concious they would contact family members. Am I correct? Or do they contact as soon as your body is found?

HIPAA is under interpretation at emergency times, at least from what I've gathered. HIPAA Privacy in Emergency Situations is a read that will give you some sections to look up. Part 164 Subpart E is where most of the icing on the cake is at.
