The only horror story I've heard is it not arriving, or the bottles being broken upon arrival, or dropping a bottle accidentally.

Worst I've heard is the guy who woke up after 65 hours. But other than being well rested and a bit surprised, there were apparently no after effects.

Then there is the harrowing story of the 43-year-old German secretary Anke H. She had fought terminal brain cancer for four years, says her friend of 18 years, Dirk Neuhaus, a 46-year-old manager with an aluminium extrusion company. In the last two years of her life she would lie crying on the floor of her apartment, immobilised by pain.

Her decision to commit suicide was agonising; she was devoutly Catholic. Neuhaus says that only after a long struggle, and with the support of religious friends, did she decide that God would love her whatever she did. One of these friends, a member of her church, accompanied her to her death.

In November Neuhaus and three others travelled to Zurich with Anke. Their appointment at the Dignitas apartment was fixed for 11am. But in a possibly catastrophic mistake, the Dignitas nurse arrived between 35 and 40 minutes late. In three of the four friends' accounts provided to the Herald, the delay had a huge effect on Anke. Neuhaus and his partner, Pomina Bentson, say she went into shock. A blanket had to be placed over her shoulders as she sat in a wheelchair in the corridor outside the apartment.

In the version of another friend, Anke did not go into shock but certainly "suffered" from the cold and her weakness.

Accounts of what happened inside the apartment diverge dramatically. Neuhaus and Bentson say that 30 seconds after drinking the mixture containing sodium pentobarbital, Anke began to cry out: "I am burning, I am burning, I burn so bad."

The other two witnesses, who requested anonymity, say they did not hear those words. Instead, said one, Anke complained about the drink's bitterness: "This shocking thing! Chocolate! This shocking thing!" Then she spoke to the drink: "Stay in! I want to keep you."

Neuhaus and Bentson allege that Anke fell into a coma after four minutes, as she was meant to, but that several times she appeared to almost leap out of the coma, as if she were drowning and gasping for air. The other two witnesses say Anke's body was tense for a short time before lapsing into a peaceful state. They say Anke had a good death.

However, one told the Swiss newspaper Sonntagszeitung: "I do not think Dirk Neuhaus and Pomina Bentson are lying. They just saw and felt the situation different from me. It was a very hard day for all of us."
Neuhaus has begun a campaign against Dignitas over the death, which he says he will remember for the rest of his life.

A pharmacological opinion obtained by the Herald found there was almost no precedent for sodium pentobarbital to cause the disturbed coma described by the two witnesses. But on rare occasions unusualreactions, including distress, can occur.

The prosecutor Brunner is investigating the case. It demonstrates the trauma and differing perceptions that can accompanyassisted suicide - and the importance not only of regulation but of psychological preparation for clients and their companions.

Research from the Netherlands, where active euthanasia has been legal since 2001, reports patient self-administration of physician-prescribed lethal medication did not work as expected in 16% of cases. In an additional 7% of cases, patients experienced unexpected side effects. The study describes patients regaining consciousness after ingesting the drugs, vomiting, and gasping for breath, and seizures. In 6% of cases, patients either regained consciousness or took significantly longer to die than expected. In the Netherlands, times between drug administration and death varied considerably, with a median range of 3.8 hours.

I read the article and clicked the link to the report of the inmate saying he felt his whole body burning...from my previous research it seems that was likely due to poor preparation from a compounding pharmacy in the US that they were getting their N from since European countries refused to provide it. It seems like that was most likely the reason for that.

The story of the old woman is very disturbing however. It feels unfathomably cruel that anyone's final moments should be anything but peaceful.

You're poisoning yourself to death. There is always going to be some pain. Dying by natural causes like a heart attack or a stroke is going to hurt just as much if not even more.

Heart attacks aren't that painful though. My father had several of them because he was a smoker and was also overweight. It only really sucks to have a heart attack and survive, because then you have to live with a damaged heart and then you have to deal with all kinds of bullshit afterwards. Personally, I wouldn't want to die from a heart attack though. CTBing is the more honorable thing to do.

Wow nice going guys.

Making each other scared with so-called horror stories because you are scared your self. Very smart and even fueling it more with stories well done.

Nembutal is far out the best and most peaceful way to go. Maybe it can burn like drinking strong wisky but getting shot or run over by a truck will hurt far more.

So stop this bullshit conversation.

Those stories are part of what happened with N. It's your choice if you want to keep the herd blind but don't tell ME to do it as I simply won't.

It's a 2-way road for people who are "bullshit complaining" here;
A) they get their profit from the entire N sale (enough scammers pretending to be one of the ctb crowd while brainlessly keep thumbing up N to finally "sell it" to a bunch of unsuspecting members here - Be Aware!)
B) they are blind and completely unable to leave the ecstasy of what is basically an experiment on human beings: N.

Bullshit, you have no idea what it feels like when gasping for air while "regaining conscioiusness". NO ONE has. We can't even know what is felt when it all seems objectively peaceful. Consciousness is not "all or nothing." We can be more or less awake, more or less conscious. And just because patients cannot move does not mean they are unconscious — consciousness does not reside in our muscles.

You feel offended because i said it is not right to fuel this conversation with more horror stories. That is why you react

Of the 600 who died a couple went not as wished and expected.
It is part of everything in life even with surgery.

So thats why i say stop fueling this if you have empathy for people who are paranoid or have enxious.

But like the nvve doctor said. Nembutal is way to strong right even with medication.

So if you are scared to go with N dont fuel this subject with a couple of examples out of this hundreds who where peaceful and went good. Its better for the people here.

And i do know how is it grasp for air i drowned in a river in France. I took control and on the bottom of the river I did it myself to breath in water. Did not want to die in panic so i did it, stuck between rocks but it was not my time yet when i was 15.

It is an experiment that everyone who wishes to take a part in, does so willingly. It's not like you can ask the dead guys how it went...

I know that dying by N is not goin to be without some pain. There's no way u won't notice that u suddenly can't breathe and body is paralyzed. I'm hoping I'm knocked out enough that I won't care. I've been under anesthesia for like a hour and a half and I assume it feels somewhat similar at least until the body begins to shut down.

True cannot ask the dead.

But It is proven that it is peaceful, because when you are in surgery they use it on you.
And that is why the euthanasia organizations use it because you fall in a deep sleep and your breath stops because the muscles stop working. Best way to go.

At first I didn't want to answer this thread, but now I've changed my mind.

I think it's important that all information about a method is discussed here in the forum. The good ones, as well as the bad ones. But I think that these 'horror stories' are not really helpful. Especially not for the users in this forum who are at a very difficult time in their lives, paranoid or anxious. And I argue that this is the majority of the users here.

Unfortunately, these exceptions are generalized very quickly, and used to judge the effectiveness of the whole method. I think that's wrong.

Of course, N is not a method that works 100%. And I hope this is clear to everyone here. There is always a risk that something will go wrong or not go as expected.
I just read the article. These are only 6 cases with unusual occurrences in almost 15 years. Only 6. For me such numbers are no reason to be worried to be honest. And certainly not enough to make N a bad and unreliable method.

I have posted this before and will quote it again:
There is a very funny article in a German newspaper which shows that about 300 people die every year from ballpoint pens in Germany. Or at least from ballpoint pen particles. Will I stop using a pen because there is a very small chance of dying from it? No.

It's a 2-way road for people who are "bullshit complaining" here;
A) they get their profit from the entire N sale (enough scammers pretending to be one of the ctb crowd while brainlessly keep thumbing up N to finally "sell it" to a bunch of unsuspecting members here - Be Aware!)

You forgot a third way. The people who take a close look at the facts, weigh up the risks and then decide whether the method is right for them. I would count myself among them.

In surgery they use fent nowadays.

Yes nowadays and some other.
But you know the history of it
But stil they use it on animals and humans for euthanasia because it is reliable.

So that is why this subjunct of horror stories of nembutal is wrong. It only fuels fear and anxiety with people here.
Just look at some comments back

If you have watched Dignitas videos, it is very quick, about 5 minutes to fall asleep. How long it takes for your breathing and heart to stop, that depends on your body. It could be 30 minutes, it could be 1 hour, it could be several hours, it could be a whole day. But you'll be in a coma the whole time.

And how do we know a shotgun blast that pulpifies a brain faster than the speed of sound is more painful than Nembutal? Nobody can argue with the fact that N sure looks pretty ("more peaceful") as compared to a gory blood bath, so if you want to star in an open casket funeral it's definitely the way to go.

It seems that N is sacred on this forum and some get upset if anyone dares to point out legitimate problems with it. Though these same people are just fine with terrifying every would-be gun suicide with the idea that they will surely blow their face off & need a face transplant. They will ignore that the vast bulk of gunshot survivors did not use a shotgun -- they used handguns & often wimpy handguns at that (with .22LR being common, despite being the weakest caliber possible). And those gunshot survivors mostly put the muzzle under their chin, which resulted in facial destruction, rather than shotgun in mouth which results in a brain being instantly pulpified.

No method is 100% so all one can do is try to decide between various methods that are all imperfect and weigh the pros & cons of each. I'm terrified of how painful a shotgun blast will be, though I know the brain has no pain receptors so it can't feel itself being destroyed and it's also clear that a shotgun makes one dead faster than any other method so the duration of pain is limited.

Coma means you're completely unconscious. Barbiturates shut down your brain almost completely. In fact, emergency protocol where barbiturate poisoning is suspected is to do resuscitative measures even if the patient appears braindead - this is the extent of how far your brain can be shut down and still be able to restart if you are found and taken to hospital.

A shotgun blast or grenade or bomb is also very likely to be completely painless since it's instantaneous, but most people here have a tougher time getting access to a shotgun or explosives than buying N. It's not like it's getting glorified, it's more of certainty, known track record and availability.
