This homeless shelter is like a lite prison. Apparently this is my punishment for losing the will to live. And they are still trying to compell everyone here to conform. If someone was capable of conforming, they wouldn't be a chronic homeless person. This is sadism. Not only is society selfish enough to say a person can't opt out of life, but they must still pull themselves up from the bootstraps and conform to normal persons expectations when their quality of life is horribly low .

Sorry you are going through this. Life is difficult enough without having to worry about homelessness on top of it all.

Yes, I agree. Nobody should have to go through homelessness, this life really is so cruel and unfair. However I believe we all deserve the option of euthanasia, nobody should have to resort to painful or traumatic methods to end their suffering. After all, it is our life and our decision. We never asked to exist in the first place. The right to die is very important.

everyone should be able to choose whether they want to live or die. it's always the same, isn't it? we're not allowed to die but somehow we are also viewed as worthless and we just need to "try harder" and behave like neurotypical people do because god forbid someone doesn't/can't conform to societal standards.

It is a very twisted aspect of society in my opinion. People can be at absolute rock bottom and it still doesn't want to let them die, it insists they stay here to suffer. Simultaneously it doesn't really want to lift people out of rock bottom either, at least not in any way that costs money.

I have heard that homeless shelters are horrible places. The staff are often extremely abusing and demeaning.
Heard someone urging others not to donate to these shelters for this reason.

I'm in favour of the right to die for everyone. The right to have a peaceful death at a time of one's own choosing is a basic human right, as much as the right to life.

The world is such a fucked up place. Homelessness is a serious problem even in the world's largest economy. No one deserves to be homeless. Homelessness is cruel, degrading, despairing and takes a big toll on one's mental health.

There are genuine solutions to homelessness that can be implemented if the elite and the politicians have the will, but they don't care. The concepts of tiny homes and tiny home villages are examples:

I volunteered at a homeless shelter in the Bay Area. The staff was amazing. They each knew all the clients' names and kept records of people's health and living situations. On occassion, there was the individual who, either from drug use or a mental health issue, would act out and need to the police to come and help remove the individual from the premises, but that only happened once while I was there. Yes, some shelters I'm sure are horrible but not all.

Yeah, homeless people have horrible abuse happening to them. Beatings, rapes, disease or impregnations from the rapes, bad health. But… euthanasia is the cruel thing,.. ok. Easy for you to say. If people are homeless due to financial crisis, drug addiction/ passing mental episode, that's one thing. Those are the people you hear inspiring stories of them getting back on their feet. But for the chronically extremely mentally ill…. Not offering this choice, if any of those things in my first sentence is happening to them… is more cruel than death IMO, and anyone who thinks other, is likely brainwashed by religion or a poser.

I hate "concerned trolls" smh

I'm with Sanva and Depressed Cat. Everyone should have the right to a peaceful, dignified, and painless death. No "reason(s)" should have to be supplied.

People in the society only follow the laws when they prolong human life. If a homeless person dies, the police will investigate the case. But many of our laws are stupid and should be changed. Of course homeless people should have the right to euthanasia, all people should have the right to a lethal injection whenever we want it like our pets.

what about the reality of empty properties in the US outnumbering that of its unsheltered population?

"there was a big high wall there / that tried to stop me / sign was painted / said 'private property' "

this land is their land, Woody Guthrie. this land belongs to landlords and their offspring.

I'm not American and I wasn't aware of that fact.

Do landlords in the US choose to keep their properties locked and empty, instead of letting them out?

tbh I wasn't aware of it for a very long time either.

nah, it's not exactly about leasing it out. basically the properties are just left vacant but if you occupy them you're trespassing. a lot of those are abandoned, unclaimed. also housing complexes that have become mostly empty due to gentrification or recession. evictions and foreclosures. apparently I haven't been to everywhere, but the one time I went to Sacramento, there was an entire tent city right outside of Dos Rios' housing project. homes are empty while people sleep on the cold concrete. there's enough apartments built, just not one place I can afford. you get me?

Absolutely, but they need a lot of money and go through a long process.
