Does anyone know if this is still a possibility like the toaster and bathtub method, or is it just hollywood?
Where I live was built in the eighties and I cant say if there has been any work since then.
Is the risk a about voltage not staying connected or should I worry that the pipes are plastic?

I can't say for certain but I wouldn't risk it.

Does not work (I ve tried that personally), maybe exception you have a really weak heart or better a pacemaker. The current has to flow through the heart, left arm to right foot. It's the 50Hz->
heart ventricular fibrillation, Voltage 110V is more than enough.

Kemmler was executed in New York's Auburn Prison on August 6, 1890; the "state electrician" was Edwin F. Davis. The first 17-second passage of 1,000 volts AC of current through Kemmler caused unconsciousness, but failed to stop his heart and breathing. The attending physicians, Edward Charles Spitzka and Carlos F. MacDonald, came forward to examine Kemmler. After confirming Kemmler was still alive, Spitzka reportedly called out, "Have the current turned on again, quick, no delay." The generator needed time to re-charge, however. In the second attempt, Kemmler received a 2,000 volt AC shock. Blood vessels under the skin ruptured and bled, and the areas around the electrodes singed. The entire execution took about eight minutes.

It's another Hollywood thing that doesn't work like they make it out to. Fuses/Breakers/GFCI outlets would activate cutting off electricity either immediately or soon enough you'd probably regret it. Maybe an electrician is on here and can confirm it but from my limited household electricity experience even if you stuck a bare wire from the walls in the tub somehow...skipping the outlets/appliances and their built in protections...the breakers in the house's main panel would still trip, and likely before you were crispy dead and probably leave you with some severe burns or new heart problems. Its certainly possible for household currents to kill, but you are fighting a system built to try and make that or burning your house down not happen so easily.

Like most methods outside the core PPH recommended ones you'd likely end up injured/sick and worse off.
