So I've been giving this a lot of thought and here's my plan for a bit of an elaborate CTB that I need to do off the grid:

- buy a burner phone because mine can be tracked
- buy a cheap car with cash that I can drive at least a day or two so I can't be tracked via GPS
- drive to Montana (always wanted to see it), stopping at a cheap motel along the way (cash again)
- buy materials for H2S (or carbon monoxide) poisoning, posting signs on car to alert whoever finds me about gas

I think I would only need 2 days. My perceived hurdles are being able to get to where I need to go off the grid without risk of being tracked. I want to get to a place where my family can't stop me, but of course I'm worried about how quickly they can find me if they file a missing persons report. Is there anything I may be missing? Or am I going overboard?

That's very elaborate, but it seems like a solid plan if that's what you want to do. You know they're going to eventually find you (or your body), right?

Is there any reason you can't just say you're going on a road trip to wherever and taking off?

I definitely want them to find my body, I basically want to make sure I have enough time to do it. If I basically need 2-3 days, I'm not sure if I'm overestimating how quickly they can track the GPS on your car, track your phone, etc. Basically I don't want them to know where I am until I do it.
Oh, and I'm not really in a position to be able to take a random road trip. This would be to basically be out of nowhere

Are there still motels that allow a stay without any form of ID, let alone without a credit card in case there are damages they could charge?

A better option may be a motor home and park it at a truck stop where drivers sleep in their semi cabs.

I figured if I found a real cheap crappy cash motel, they wouldn't care. Or I could just sleep in my car too..

Yes, but they are not safe. You are better off sleeping in your car.

Finallyatpeace, please do not use H2S. Signs are not always enough and there are other factors to consider, not the least of which is that your body will be considered Hazardous Waste, at least temporarily and possibly for a long period of time. Your skin, especially around the nose and mouth, will turn yellowish-gray.

CO will leave you with a pretty corpse and leaves the rest of the world in less danger.

There is another recent thread discussing this . Please give it a read and PM me if you have questions.

As long as you aren't a minor they can't file a missing persons report for at least 24 hours

H2S + hotel/motel = I would hate to be anyone lving or working at that place and also i would hate to be the worker that found your body.

My worry is that if I leave during a work day, no one would know until 5pm. Say I left at noon, they'd file it the next day at 12. How quickly would they be able to find my car or phone?
I wouldn't do it in the motel @one4all. I meant along the way until I get there. I would do it in the car parked in a remote area.

There are ways to ensure they don't. Can ctb in the bathroom and leave a note outside the closed door advising to call emergency services, or hanging a sheet from the ceiling to block the view of the bed with a note facing the door.

Can't H2S also leak out from a room if it is not sealed properly; vents, doors etc etc?

Edit - Since to OP has expressed that it will not be at a hotel/motel. I will no longer pursue this though. I was just mentioning possible hazards for other people.

If you leave your regular phone behind, use burner, no social media, no toll roads, stay at cash motels... I think it will be difficult for them to find you.

I read your post and your plan seems solid. I would add that you have to find some way to get charcoal burning hot enough that it produces CO, but has already burned off CO₂ because Carbon Dioxide will trigger your hypercapnic response (also part of your SI - survival instinct) if there is too much of it in your bloodstream. Carbon Monoxide on the other hand (iirc and based on my understanding and readings), is undetectable (odorless, tasteless, colorless) and you would just drift off into unconsciousness.

That's the hiccup I'm running into is finding a reliable way of producing CO. If I could just get a tank with a release nozzle, that would be perfect. But you can only get those at welding supply companies and they're apparently suspicious of anyone who asks for it who's not a contractor

Take me with you, I want to see Montana too. I have cash and SN.

Just thought of something more simple: Would it be possible to buy a gas weed trimmer and just fire it up in the car and let it run? I would think that would produce enough CO

Or a tent. If I were to get a gas blower/weed trimmer and sit in a tent. I'm not sure how much ventilation a tent naturally has, does anyone know if this is doable?
