Help Help understanding crypto currency

Hi everyone,
I would like to get N soon. I don't have any idea how crypto currency works. I tried looking it up online. It seems so complicated. Could someone who has experience using crypto currency please explain the basics to me? Thank-you.

It's confusing. My bank wouldn't allow me to use companies based in other countries. I tried many Apps and for one reason or another I uninstalled them. I went with Cash App. I don't have much advice. You just sign up....and click to purchase BTC...etc etc.Take care.
