I'm sorry you're suffering. The charcoal method isn't easy to get right. I've read that it's easier to get the necessary high concentration of co by running a generator in a small space. But right now it's important to please take care of yourself. Get a lot of fresh air, drink lots of water, eat well. You can think later about next steps. (((Hugs)))

Here's the car method (also works for small sealed bathroom):

1. x2 disposable bbqs. Light them outside and let smoke/flames finish (after 20 minutes or so). One bbq is around 500g. You want 1kg in total.
2. While waiting for the bbqs to be ready, take your booze/benzo/sleeping pill mix
3. Put the bbqs on bricks seated in a tray of water in the back of the car - coals should be grey with red centre, no flame or smoke
4. Get into car asap, close all air vents, lie back on seat
5. Drift off with your pill mix. Need to be sleeping in there 1-2 hours

But as Soul says above, don't rush it, it needs practise and trial runs, sending you my thoughts at this tough time for you.

How do you think you failed? Did you pass out?

After the coals stop smoking in the chimney starter, I just put 'em in my little hibachi and place it in the car in a little tub of water. Tested it AGAIN last night and the reading was still above 1000ppm after 3 hours.

No need for a chimney starter?

Everyone quotes you need it, but if you look at all the news items about car/bbq deaths then they are using 1 or 2 disposable tray bbqs.

The chimney starter sends up a heck of a lot of smoke and flames for almost an hour so much harder to prepare too.

You can get a carbon monoxide reader to make sure the levels are high enough.

Personally I'd do the cogen for carbon monoxide. 2 - 3 cogens just to make sure I have enough.

3. Put the bbqs on bricks seated in a tray of water, ( think that reduces the amount of heat given off) not the coal
