I don't have an answer to this myself, but I love reading threads about this topic on Reddit, such as this one. The common opinion seems to be that near-death experiences are actually extremely peaceful, which I find very comforting. One of my favourite responses on that thread is this:

"It was peaceful. No lights, no pearly gates, no angels, just peace. I was in a horrible car wreck and I had a blood clot go through my heart and I died for a bit. When I woke up everyone was yelling at me to breathe. I was pissed off because not only was I certain that I was indeed breathing, I had just been woken from the first quality sleep since my wreck. There's nothing but peace and comfort on the other side."

That sounds nice, doesn't it?

I haven't had an NDE, but I was very lucky to talk to a man once who did-he died in a motorcycle accident, went into the Light, God gave him a choice to stay or to go, he decided to come back because he didn't want to break his mother's heart and recovered from his wounds and now leads a blessed life

I hope NDEs are just hallucinations and btw all evidence points towards that.

I fear an afterlife because I can't imagine an existence without suffering.
I also hate the idea that I'd have to see all the people that I hate again.

the afterlife is a good place according to all those accounts.
but in my situation eternal darkness is starting to sound real nice

really? then what if the guy from the motorcycle accident decided to stay? His mom's heart would be broken and he'd live with guilt in the "afterlife".

the whole thing is way more complex than just saying that. It was his own choice to come back. No one made him.
things in the afterlife seem very different than to our viewpoint here. that's actually why we come here-to experience something different than we can in the afterlife. Now I know this seems ridiculous as I am telling a suicidal person this. But imagine your true nature is a creative, powerful being and that you can experience all the lives you like-you want to gain insight into misery because on the other side there is none and so you come here. But it is not only sadness you want to experience-it is a whole bunch of other stuff, too.
If you are interested there are a bunch of books you can read on this or the free website 'near-death.com'
In the end, everything is going to be fine. That is the key message here, afterlife or no afterlife

I know what you're talking about because I've read trough all of it. Reincarnation makes no sense. How are you supposed to learn if you can't remember anything? For a hundred lifetimes of good karma there are a hundred lifetimes of sin.

this question, too is adressed in NDE accounts. Reincarnation is a fact, but karma isn't-because it doesn't exist. God is all loving and all knowing. We are all parts of God, the highest love imaginable. So we have nothing to learn about loving one another. We want to experience a life on Earth. We do not come here to learn anything, but to experience it. It's like knowing everything about going skiing-the theory, the physics behind it, how water turns into ice, the perfect way to put on your ski boots. But when you are on the mountain, you experience the reality of it-the wind in your hair, the cold on your face, the wonderful feeling you have when you are on the top of the mountain, the pain when you fall on your butt, etc.
I am talking about NDE accounts only.not buddhism or other religions like it.

Why come back to this lifetime of suffering if the afterlife is so peaceful and all-loving? Why would anyone ever want to come back here?

A single lifetime is already enough suffering. Can you imagine a thousand? A million?

You assume that life must only contain suffering as you are on a suicide forum. But most people's lives do not only consist of suffering, but of a lot of joy as well. I think one of the main problems with suicidal people is that they assume that everything is bad for everyone. But that is not the case. I look around myself and notice that other people's lives can be hard, but that in the end they somehow find enough joy in their life to bear it. For example, my mother would never consider suicide-not in a milllion years.
But most people probably don't have the kind of specific misery we are dealing with.
There are also many NDE accounts where people tell us of other planets and races...Earth is probably not the only planet with life. This is just a little blue marble in an almost infinite universe. God's mind is infinite. There are so many other lives and options available than here.
I in fact can't wait to reincarnate if it is possible. Just not in my life.

It is my firm belief that if we end our own lives, our afterlife experience won't be anywhere near as pleasant as if we had died in an accident or from disease/old age. I don't know how or why I think that, but it's a strong gut feeling I have. It's one of the few things that keeps me going, at least for now. But it's inevitable that some people (possibly me too) will have too many things going on to be able to cope and will succumb. I don't blame those people in the least. If we're only human then there's only so much we can take.

it's not going to be as good because you see how your suicide impacts others.
But in the end we all go to the same place
