I slept for about 4 hours today, with no dreams whatsoever. I feel amazing and refreshed. Have any of you ever experienced that?
A little bird would enthusiastically begin to detail the phenomenon of a white dream. Sigh. :(I think you probably do dream, you just don't remember. Healthy sleep runs through the whole gamut of brain wave patterns and beta waves in REM sleep are essential to that cycle. Without REM sleep, the cerebro-spinal fluid doesn't get the metabolic waste washed out properly, so if you are feeling refreshed, you probably did have REM sleep. Many people can't remember their dreams, so it is as if they didn't have them at all.
My most vivid dreams tend to occur in hypnogogia, usually in the morning just before I wake up. I'm not even sure they are dreams, more like hallucinations.A little bird would enthusiastically begin to detail the phenomenon of a white dream. Sigh. :(
But you're right. IIRC white dreams tend to occur closer to the depths of NREM sleep.
It's like a surreal half asleep-half awake state. Perfectly normal hallucinations, in case anyone was wondering. Everyone has them, as well as hypnic jerks. My most vivid dreams tend to occur in hypnogogia, usually in the morning just before I wake up. I'm not even sure they are dreams, more like hallucinations.
I get hypnic jerks. I used to have them really badly due to anxiety. Couldn't even get to sleep because of them. I still get the occasional one. Like a monkey falling off a tree whilst falling asleep and waking up with a jolt. Its quite horrible actually. Years ago this was misdiagnosed with no clinical evidence as an ectopic heartbeat. It's like a surreal half asleep-half awake state. Perfectly normal hallucinations, in case anyone was wondering. Seriously? Do professionals not understand how anxiety affects the body? Careful, I'm gonna rant again. Gotta reign it in. LolI get hypnic jerks. I used to have them really badly due to anxiety. At the time I wasn't showing any signs of anxiety, it was all internalised. I do a good impression of confidence and being able to cope. And the jolts were just occasional. But if I'd known about hypnogogic spasms back then I would have seen it for what it was. Oh but patients diagnosing themselves is bad, right? Yeah, well, bloody doctors get yer fingers out and start actually paying attention.Seriously? Do professionals not understand how anxiety affects the body? Careful, I'm gonna rant again. Lmao. We should start our own reform because we clearly have it all figured outAt the time I wasn't showing any signs of anxiety, it was all internalised. My attitude can sometimes come across as arrogance and the doctors hate it. I can see that. But I don't give a fuck because it's my health and that trumps their job.Lmao. We should start our own reform because we clearly have it all figured out
I don't know if this counts as "sleep", but under anesthesia I didn't dream at all and it was like time-travel since there wasn't anything to fill in the gaps. Closest to death you can get while still alive.
All I can say is damn straight. It's refreshing to hear about the occasional doc who would understand exactly what you said. But that requires humility and vulnerability on their part. They have specialist knowledge (though sometimes I wonder even about that, especially when I see them consulting google for things I already know), but I'm the one who has the knowledge about me, not them. They should always listen to their patients but they often don't.
I've experienced decades of this and I've done my due diligence. That doesn't make me right, but I trust my instincts and experience over some twat who tells me to continue taking drugs that are clearly making things worse.
You don't get out of a problem by continuing with the same behaviour that got you into it in the first place.
Exactly. And I did once meet a GP who was like that. He was very quietly spoken, listened and even let me actually call him when I needed to. He was the one that got me the scan that showed I had liver damage, when all the other docs had said my LFTs were fine so it was all in my head. But it was my body and I knew. And he listened. I swear that is what it takes, doctors who listen. Unfortunately, the amount of work and drive it takes to study medicine is often not something that goes hand in hand personality wise with someone who is good at listening. All I can say is damn straight. Well thank goodness you found a doctor like that. A compassionate professional who is eager to listen, and even learn from the patient, makes such a difference!Exactly.
