My pursuit of minimalism turned to borderline asceticism due to awakening my apathy for the world half a decade ago. I live with the barest of essentials and few entertainment that is only becoming more numbing as time goes on. Regardless, it does bring me a sense of peace and control to me in a chaotic world fixated on status, materialism and power. I have little to lose now and it is rather wonderful to feel unshackled from life's many worldly wants.

Has such a decision helped you feel some peace and serenity in this awful world too?

I don't bother buying material goods for myself. I just buy food. I barely have anything in my room. I always thought "what's the point I'm just gonna die anyways." Why lavish myself in material goods when I'm not here to stay, and my time around it is brief, a fleeting glance towards it and back. Yea, it's not worth it. But, I imagine if my life was good, I'd have collections of all my favourite figures. Too bad that's just some stupid fantasy.

A fair response. I have many a similar thoughts pop up in this cranium as well.

I'd totally have gotten into 40k but I see no point anymore
I lost everything I accumulated for 17 years. I have just a few clothes.
You "lost everything"? Was this by choice? If it was not, I am sorry for your losses.

It's difficult. I tend to get attached to the things I like; I guess they fill the void in some way. It stresses me out to think about my small collections (pencils, watches, books) being thrown away or given away, when I've always dedicated myself to caring for them.
Perhaps when objects become your 'companions' you give them more value than you should.
I'm not a hoarder or materialist, I don't have any 'luxury' things either.

I am a maximalist of note. I have so many things, and it's stressing me out thinking about how much I have to pack up and give away/dump. A lot of it isn't sentimental at least and I don't plan on gifting to friends, but I'd still rather not waste perfectly good things when I could give them to a charity shop, so I have to pack things up decently. I'm actually planning on starting that process tomorrow.

I lost all my friends career apartment in a month and lost 10 years of progress in the gym in 2 months. I told a friend he could take some stuff from my apartment if he wanted and he too like everything. I moved back home with my mom and now I can't get out of it. No one is hiring my ass in this condition with my resume. I've basically turned myself the r word and my face got fucked up from steroid use, body too from th stoppage of it. Unprecedented. Lived on the beach and was an athlete and gym rat and looked really good, all my hobbies are gone and people don't make eye contact bc of my appearance.

Great! I once cared about donating things to shops and charity organizations but what I have realised is a lot of it is still going to the dump anyway. And it does not slow down the mass production of goods anyway. It definitely helped raise my morale as I expressed being more environmentally tact. But now, it means little. I am gifted things without my consent and I just throw it out.

I wish you the best when departing with your goods :)

Im becoming a minimalist. But I live at my parents and they have a bunch of shit and it drives me nuts. All this materalism is pointless. My mind becomes overwhelmed with all this materalism around me

I just told someone this exact thing yesterday. I've been trying to become a minimalist myself. Last year I bought hundreds of items from Amazon. This year it's in the single digits so far. I bought 7 items. I only bought the stuff I actually needed, not wanted.

Buying more and more stuff is just an empty endeavor. I'd recommend really thinking about any purchase and waiting before you make it. As you keep waiting and force yourself to wait, you'll suddenly find that you can live without it just fine.

That is crazy relatable. My parents are borderline hoarders and I was thankful to have my own room that was bare of nearly everything so I could feel some peace. I wish you the best on your minimalist journey :)
