Has anyone met online friends before?

I managed to meet a couple of mine that I knew for 5 years prior from a minecraft server. It was a decent experience, but my hearing loss + his accent made it a bit frustrating at times.

I'm curious if others have met their online friends and how it went.

I met my boyfriend of 8 years during ArcheAge closed beta. We were in the same guild but never spoke with one other until he joined me in farming for pet XP potions. I was a F-key-spamming loot thief and he was my only competition - others in the group could care less. That got us talking and he continued to pursue me afterwards. I found his frequent usage of =P annoying, but I'm like a cat in that regard - many things annoy me, but I stick around anyway. I lived out of state at the time, but coincidentally moved to his state (family chose to move, not me) a year or two after our initial conversation. We're still together, but not betrothed or married, and not for long with my impending departure.

I haven't met other online friends, unfortunately (or fortunately?). Most live abroad in places like Australia or SEA. A few reside in the states but are too far away for someone like me to visit as I don't travel often. Over the years, I've developed a ghosting problem, so I rarely befriend anyone before burning the connection.

The few friends I have I met playing online games years ago. They're the best friends I've ever had and hopefully I can meet them all in person before I ctb. <3

The ones I made on minecraft have become so close to me that they're essentially really good friends, so it doesn't even matter that there's a digital barrier. I intend to meet them all one day, and we fantasize about a road trip with all of us.

I met up with two of my online friends who turned out to be in the same country, and although they were both a bit younger we still had fun. The train ride there was worth it too. I still talk with them everyday and they're one of the most important reasons I'm still here ^^

The only person I've met from online was from this website. We met each other last year, and we would speak every day for months for like six hours. We deeply loved each other, and he came to visit me even though we were thousands of kilometers apart. It was a really intense love, we even wanted to marry each other. But then it ended horribly, because of my fault. I tried to kill myself while together, did an overdose, and he said he would never forgive me for that.
