Venting Hate when people tell me I have potential

I hate when people tell me that I have so much potential. Change "have" to "had." I had potential until my cognitive issues fucked me up a few years ago. I want to go back to college, but idk if I'd even be able to do well because of it. I can see me making a ton of mistakes just like I am with the job I'm at.

Am just waiting for the day that I get tired of everything and my survival instinct lowers so I can make my exit, but idk if that day will ever come :(

I understand why you would hate that. Other people do not really know what it is like as they are not living your life. I'm sorry that you suffer so much. The survival instinct really can be so frustrating and I wish that it is easier to leave this world as well.

It is really bad when people make these sort of comments as it just makes you feel more depressed as you know your negative feelings are very strong and prevent you from reaching that potential.

People can never understand what we are going through as they have never lived it. They are simple speaking as an outsider trying to encourage you when they themselves have never reached these depths of darkness.

The next time someone tells me this, I'm just gonna respond with, "You're right! I have the potential to kill myself! Thank you and goodbye."

But yeah, I'm another one of those "had potential" kind of people too, so I can relate. It sucks thinking about what could have been if things had been different, but here I am anyway. I'm just the shadow of the person I used to be.

Yeah, I was also an expectations kid. You grow up getting used to being some kind of parental figure to a broken family where your voice goes silent and everyone else's gets louder. Just lose your sensibilities and get sucked into some kind of vortex of self hate and negation, where you always lose. Then when the time to adult comes, you have to deal with severe issues and/or depression from it, all cause you "had so much potential" or "we believe in you so much." Really sad honestly

Exactly. They think I can improve, but I think the chances of it are extremely low to none. Just gotta get the courage to end things for good.
