Discussion Has someone ever encouraged you to kill yourself?

I am talking about trying to "convince" you in a manipulative way that it is better to commit suicide, that you will help yourself by doing that, that others around you will ultimately also be happier if you do it, etc. I'm not talking about the "go kill yourself, you ***!!1!" - type of "convincing".

I think there have been people in my life who wanted and tried to manipulate and break me until there was nothing left of me, so that I wouldn't want anything else but to kill myself. I don't think any of them would actually ever pull the trigger, though.

thats not ok! no one should ever feel like they have been manipulated or coerced into feeling that way, as if they almost dont have a choice- if anyone feels that way it should be because it is a conclusion they have reached after some consideration (admitedly treatment from certain people may in some cases be a contributing factor in reaching that decision) and always totally autonomous. If anyone is driving you to feel this should be an option for you, you need to get yourself away from them if you can...

Me too- But OP sounds like they were not thinking about it before but someone has planted the idea and driving them towards it...which to me is not cool...esp. if they are young (well in all cases but could potentially be more susceptible to manipulation if so)

Yeah that was pretty full on- from what I remember (can't be bothered to read it all again) they were literally goading them & blatantly encouraging them right up until the last minute - ha and people focus on worrying about websites like this - it's the people out there irl that are the real ones to watch out for!
