Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone has tried 5-htp and/or L-theanine for depression. I take both and I think for me personally that they work.
Would anyone consider trying these natural supplements for their depression?

I tried them both. The effect ranged from very very subtle to as helpful as eating leaves from roadside trees.

I do take medication for depression and anxiety, but they wear off very quickly. I supplement it with alcohol and cigarettes, but those are pretty meh as well.

Fuck my life!

I gave both of them a shot: didn't do shit. It seems that nothing ever does . . . Anyway, ignore my pessimism, I'm sure it's worth a try for anyone who hasn't yet.

I find with 5-htp is that it works for as long as I'm taking it and when I run out I return to a normal depressed mood and state. I have to take around 200-250mg per day to feel the affects. I wish I could take a supplement or a medication and it helps me long term, really do something good for my mind, but none help long term (as in feeling the effects long term) I'm sorry 5-htp didn't work for you. Big hugs to you.

I'm sorry 5-htp didn't work for you. I find that if I stop taking them, they stop working in the sense that they don't leave any lasting impression on my brain. So I'm the long run, they don't really help a lot.
Dont apologise for being pessimistic. When meds and supplements don't work, it's perfectly understandable.
Big hug to you.

Yes I take them for the serotonin effect and the l-theanine for the dopamine effect. They work for me quite well, it's just the effect wears off once I stop taking them. Which is frustrating for me.
I used to be a raver too, in the 90s, best time ever!
I do eat bananas for the tryptophan, but I'm trying to stay away from too much sugary fruit as I'm borderline diabetic. Fatty pork and eggs work quite nicely for me. Also cod liver oil.
Im going to stay on 5-htp for a long time I reckon. Ah well, a girls got to do what a girls got to do!:sunglasses:

A good rule of thumb to remember: If it's legal and widely available, it most likely doesn't work. The government wants to keep simple pleasures out of our reach, and in the hands of Big Pharma. Except for those that were around for centuries, like caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.

Hi! Cod liver oil helps the brain by providing DHA and EPA. These are Omega 3 fatty acids. I try and heal my brain by taking these and vitamin b12.... these help with overall brain health and help also with relieving symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as other Psychiatric disorders.

Yes exactly! Very true. Alcohol is very destructive, I'm a former alcoholic.
I do find that these supplements do work as long as I take them, if I stop taking them, I find the effects don't last at all. That's when I think that I will have to take them forever to keep seeing effects. That's the only depressing thing about it. We can't even have kratom in the uk because of crappy government legislation. But the alcohol and cigarettes are widely available. It's so backwards. I agree with you on that.

I haven't really been blackout drunk for 4 years. I drink only in moderation now. On birthdays and Christmas etc. I don't feel the urge to drink that much anymore. It's so much better.
Yes give the cod liver oil a go. It's good stuff. I hope it helps! Big hugs!
