Hello.

I'm planning to CTB with the help of H2S in my bathroom, as I do not have a car nor any easier method. I am planning to take all necessary precautions to minimize any possible harm to anyone else. Please do not talk me out of this, I am desperate.

Would 3x750 ml of toilet bowl cleaner with 9% HCL be enough with 4x16 fl oz lime sulfur dip meant for pets? I've had trouble trying to find cleaners with more HCL than that where I live. I already have to order the dip overseas, so I'd like to avoid further overseas shipping.

@Onboro

I'm familiar with how Hydrogen Sulfide is offgassed when compounded sulfur is mixed with HCl, however I dont have any experience with actually creating the gas so please take my comments "with a grain of salt."

Two potential pitfalls:

  • Lime Sulfur Dip should work as long as you are purchasing the concentrated liquid form, which from a quick web search seems to be the more common type. There is a paste version which has many binding agents that may interfere with the oxidation process required for H2S gas to be given off.
  • I believe your 9% HCl toilet bowl cleaner is way too dilute. In addition many toilet bowl cleaners have Ethoxylated aliphatic amines which are wetting agents which work in tandem with added thickening agents to thicken the viscosity of the cleaner. This is done so the cleaner "sticks" to the toilet bowl.
In my opinion, I'd replace the toilet bowl cleaner with a 23%HCl type.

Okay, thank you. I'll keep my eyes open for stronger HCl then before I do anything else.

While I am still on the lookout for stronger HCl, I read through the old Japanese H2S PDF and it said that a toilet bowl cleaner with 9.5% HCl is strong enough. Surely that .5% could be alleviated with a bigger amount of the liquid, if 9% is the easiest I can get? It's surprisingly difficult for someone unemployed and in debt like me to find stronger concentrations here. I don't live in the US. The lime sulfur dip I'd be using is a 97.8% sulfurated lime solution. Aiming for roughly 2l of each.

Apologies for the bumping, but I haven't had much success finding stronger HCl. Everything I find is only being sold to companies in large containers and I don't think they'll sell to a random nobody. At least from what I've seen. So I'm still looking at my original plan. Harpic Power Plus is 9% HCl and I can get it without issues.
