Discussion Goodbye note advice

How do you guys write your goodbye notes to people? Do you do it in person? Letter? Message? Do you tell them the full truth or hide the truth partially to prevent them from trying to save you? Do you send it before your attempt or would you prefer to do it after the deal is done and it's just "a matter of time"?

So far I've got basically a "thank you" or "fuck you" message for my most influential friends/family/ enemies and am struggling with finding a satisfying way to tie off these loose ends. Especially when it comes to my grandparents and people I want to protect from grief.

I think that it would be a terrible idea opening up to other people about plans to die in person or saying some kind of farewell to them as this could cause them to interfere. So many people in this world are against the right to die after all. But anyway it's a personal decision deciding what to write in a note and how it should be done, I would personally see it as best to write letters for the people to find after one has ctb and the letters can act as a form of closure.

I wouldn't tell people I'm making any plans or thoughts directly but I might say that life has been difficult lately and I'm struggling with seeing through the haze of depression (everyone knows I've always been depressed). If they offer support I can thank them for the empathy and compassion but let them know I need to handle this myself. This way I'm not lying but I'm not telling the whole truth either.

Do people seriously get the cops called on them for this shit? That's fucking disgusting. I understand their screwed up logic with this when It comes to adolescents but I don't see any reason they could legally commit an adult for feeling suicidal, there shouldn't be any legal basis for that. I'm glad I've kept this secret from people.
