What do people mean when they say this? In what way? Also, if it is true, what is that a bad thing?

Sounds like something that people from a specific religion would say to imply that their views should be universally imposed on children.

Having said that, there have been many cultures throughout human history, and almost all of them have had belief systems about gods. North Korean-style Communism and modern-day materialism are notable exceptions, though you will notice that supreme leaders and celebrities are deified in lieu, as human nature is human nature. To avoid teaching children the facts about historical/geographical cultures and their ideas about gods would amount to imposing a materialistic agenda.

Our present period of time is just another historical era, and our current worldview is just another idea about what to believe in or not. I can very confidently say it will be different in another 100 years.

"You people recognize each other by smell, don't you?!" - the question the catholic priest - who was my religion teacher in school - asked me in front of the whole class, when he talked about his colleague's time in Africa.

If you can judge an employer by the people he employs then "god" must be a certifiable s.o.b.
