Giving up SS for Lent starting on Ash Wednesday, February 26

The title is self-explanatory. I think that I have become a little too dependent on SS. Lent is coming soon, so starting on Ash Wednesday, I intend to remain away from SS till Easter Sunday, April 12. If any of you want to get in touch with me during Lent, please send me a PM before February 26 and I can give you my email address. I pray for you all often: I pray every night for the repose of the souls of those SS members who have ctb. Those of you who pray, please pray that I have a productive Lent. God willing, I should be back after Easter

That's an interesting thing to give up during Lent. I haven't decided what I want to give up this year, but giving up SS is tempting. Hopefully I'll make it whole season this time.

Oh furk, maybe I'll supplement that with therapy during the Lenten season. Give something up and replace with something good (I'm not saying SS isn't good).

Easter is a beautiful holiday, it's full of hope and joy, for those who allow themselves to feel that.

As a kid we always went to church on Good Friday and fasted a month or more before Easter Sunday. And then there was the midnight mass on Easter Saturday where the entire church was lit with candles and people brought flowers. It was a very special time which filled me with happiness and made me feel close to faith.

I still watch the Vatican Easter Mass and the Urbi et Orbi every year live.

It's a ritual I like to keep, although I am an atheist now, and the innocent days of prayers and Easter celebration are long lost in the haze of years gone by.

It's Easter now and I was able to stick with my Lenten promise. I'm happy I did it, though there were a few days that I really wanted to come on here during Lent.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I hope you -- and everyone on SS -- had a beautiful and blessed Easter. I was fairly productive this Lent, considering that the Governor of California and the Mayor of Los Angeles have ordered Californians and Angelenos to stay at home. Dealing with closed churches and no IRL writing group meetings was hard (after all, my social life -- such as it is -- revolves around church and my writing group), but watching Masses on YouTube and participating in my writing group through Zoom is surprisingly acceptable. For the past few weeks, my writing has revolved around how my characters deal with the alternate-world version of the 1918 flu pandemic (remember that my novel's point of divergence from our historical timeline is in May 1915, so the 1918 flu pandemic is a little different than in our timeline). My novel is still pretty ragged and rough, alas. If I can devote enough time to it, I should be able in two or three years to have a publishable version of my novel that is ready to send to a literary agent.

In non-writing events chez moi this Lent, a new physical therapist had my mother stand up for 30 seconds last week while holding on to a walker: since my mother has been completely bedbound for two years, that is excellent. My brother was so emotional seeing Mom stand that he cried tears of joy. I hope Mom can get to the point where she can walk to a commode (even if she needs a walker to do so). If she can use a commode, then she will no longer need to wear diapers (at least during the day: she would probably still need to wear a diaper at night). I would be sooo grateful if Mom did not need to wear diapers during the day (because I am the one who changes her diapers). It would also help me if Mom gets to the point where she can take a shower on her own as well.

That's great news about your mother being able to stand up again.
