I know I'm going to feel terrible afterwards, but I just need to forget the shambles my life is in so I've acquired 15% ABV spirits. Since I can't willfully forget my state of affairs, I'll guess I'll be doing it the old fashioned, self-destructive way. I'm not an alcoholic by any stretch and only drink about once or twice a year, but the realization that I have so little control over my body, life, and environment has got me back to my old bad habits. Really when I'm quite honest with myself, I sense that I have no control whatsoever over the course of my life and there is more suffering ahead. Sometimes I can accept this radically. Today is not one of those days.

Anyone else indulging tonight? What are your reasons?

Sorry I posted this in recovery. If in the off chance a mod sees this, please feel free to move it to Off Topic. Clearly this isn't worthy of the Recovery section.

I feel you, it's a bit of a crutch isn't it?, i've gotten to the point where I'm sick of the taste, but I still do it, but as I get older I cannot stand the hangover!

I also laugh at these new hangover pills to try and subside it.

What's your hangover cure?

Lol, I don't know if I have a tried and true hangover cure. Some people swear by Gatorade, maybe I'll try that. I had no idea hangover pills actually existed. Do they work?

Weeeeelll, I tried them, there's certain brands that have designed them to break down alcohol and have gut friendly bacteria. You take one before and after you drink, it didn't work for me, so I dont know if there is a limit on how much you drink.

Paracetamol you are still my friend.

How do you manage to forget your worries while drinking? I have no sense of any improvement with my psychological state when drinking, and I always remember my life circumstances. The only forgetting actually comes the day after in the form of not remembering any movies or similar that I watched the night prior while drinking.

Perhaps it has something to do with the amount of alcohol consumed - I usually "only" drink 4 to 5 50 cl / 17 oz beers containing about 7 % alcohol each.

I wish this was an option for me. It'd be nice to feel something just once. I think I'm going to die soon without enjoying anything, while suffering. Otherwise I would join in drink, since I'm dying anyway. For me the hardest thing is taking that final step towards death. If the world wasn't as cruel, I don't think I would want to die, but the world is cruel, selfish and majority people out there don't care about someone like me.

But we all care about each other here (I hope) maybe in the next life we can all get drunk in the sun somewhere and sing songs about how shit that earth 'world' was, first rounds on me!!

Couple things.... I completely relate and Understand. got totally Smashed ( whiskey, thc, .. couple other substances) and hammered last night to help me cope and numb my resentments / pain. Don't feel the best right now but already back on the bottle .. I have very little control left myself. Please Don't feel ashamed or regret your reasons for doing so. You do You,. Whatever that might be.

Blessings and prayers to you. -.

I didn't want to have to state it overtly but the "forgetting" only occurs once I've managed to black out / pass out. I am actually quite sensitive to alcohol so just a cup of vodka can usually get me this result, but of course this would vary from person to person. Five beers with 7% alcohol would be a lot for me. I'm about to do 50 cl of 15% and I'm quite sure I'll be knocked out relatively quick.

Thanks for not judging. I usually despise alcohol for a variety of reasons, but I'm just too demoralized right now to even care what I'm doing to myself at the moment. Sending you kind thoughts and hopes for a better tomorrow your way.

Sorry I'm not familiar .. or just a complete idiot..... But what does 50cl equal up to in U.S. conversion ? I'm used to ml and Oz.. had to ask.

If you already drank it ... I hope you have a peaceful nap / rest. Take care.

No worries, man. 50 cL (centiliters) is like 17 fluid oz. About the size of a miniature bottle of soda.

50cl is 500ml, it's just a factor of 10, easy conversion. Not sure why they use cl…time to Google!

I actually think getting drunk a few times a year is worthy of Recovery, sounds like fun IMO. Of course you are doing it in a bad state of mind so it might just make the self-pity multiply. When I'm starting to feel the effects of alcohol and I just get lethargic and sad I stop, it's only worth it if you acquire a transient exhilarated mood.

I am no expert on cures but a good amount of drinking water alongside the alcohol and a ginger lemon and honey tea in the morning sure goes a long way. The worst part of alcohol besides the toxicity is the dehydration so making sure you stay hydrated is half the battle. You will still get a hangover but it helps a lot.

Gatorade is certainly helpful too.
Unasked for thought, it's purely a personal experience but I find weed a much better solo experience, alcohol makes me very depressed alone after the buzz starts to go away.

Got absolutely wasted last night on vodka cranberry over ice. Forgot how nice that drink tasted since I haven't had it since college. Didn't end up in the dumps, just listened to British female singers from the 60s and kept falling over like an idiot. And yes, I am definitely hungover now but got English breakfast on the way to save me.

I'm thinking about having a few beers tonight with some wine. No reason really, feel pretty good. Just got a haircut for the first time in about two years, I guess that's a good reason.
