<I don't believe that people should take their own lives without deep and thoughtful reflection over a considerable period of time. I do believe strongly, however, that the right to do so is one of the most fundamental rights that anyone in a free society should have. For me, much of the world makes no sense, but my feelings about what I am doing ring loud and clear to an inner ear and a place where there is no self, only calm.>

The only issue with what you said was the inference of a "free society". It's kind of a paradox. Self termination should be a fundamental human right. Period. Society does not nor has it ever benefited from suicide. In fact, it has been detrimental to the psychosis of everyone it touches. Which is why you rarely hear about it happening and yet the statistics speak to many many lives lost. Suicide will never be encouraged, nurtured, or allowed openly, if it's in terms of societal structure. It can be if you approach it from the individuals prospective in regards to the right to choose like with abortion... maybe it had a shot.
I wouldn't be opposed to a suicide tax if it were made legal. The lose of individual life is equivalent to the lose of societal productivity. I would also go as far as to say a 1 year assessment period for anyone wanting to do so and receive a peaceful controlled end as opposed to ctb on their own in a horrible way.

I second the 1 year assessment. 6 months to a year.
