I've been sleep deprived for around 40 hrs, sometimes this happens. But for some reason I feel on another level. Like im actually satisfied, happy and excited about life again. It came on quite suddenly when I felt a glimmer of hope about something. Maybe I will wake up tomorrow and it will be back to normal. Is this something other people have experienced?

Sometimes I purposely stay up for like 24 hours and it makes me euphoric as well. Then again, I am bipolar and with that condition you're advised to try and keep a regular sleep schedule. It's annoying because it's temporary once I sleep the mood is back to normal.

I read somewhere that sleep deprivation was being used in controlled studies to alleviate extreme depression, but they always found the effects to be short lived as well.

Depends how realistic whatever your excited about it is. If you suddenly believe you can build a casino or win the next U.S election inspite of neither being your area of expertise, its a possibility. It also depends for how long and how frequent.

Beat my record, young grasshopper 72 hours straight!

(then again, I'm bipolar, so it comes easy...)

Are you taking any new medication? It could be just that.

I normally feel pretty good after sleep deprivation too. It feels like an accomplishment, especially if I am doing something productive with my time. I believe sleep deprivation produces the same effect as inebriation too.

I did many times and i'm kind of additected to mania. Well, it's not always that fun. One part of my brain situation is bipolar 2.

I'm bipolar II and when I have hypomanic episodes I sleep three hours a night and don't feel tired at all. On the contrary, I feel fantastic. I don't know if you're bipolar or not, but maybe you should have it checked.
