I am not a Christian, but they (Christians) claim that god is love. Most Christians say suicide is a mortal sin. And that life is a gift from god. If the modern world is man-made, then why it is a sin if you cannot accept the things that sinful people have done with this world? If we are ready to go, we are not bound to anything earthly and that's why could be closer to god? If the world is dark and cold, why staying in man-made hell if you are not supposed to live in darkness? If life is a gift, why are people suffering? What to do with those whose brain was damaged since the day of birth? Whose body was damaged, whose mental capabilities are worse than mental capabilities of other people? If god made people weak and tortured, why liberation (suicide) is a sin?

I read the whole article and needless to say, we need more people speaking about the fact that reading the Bible and praying doesn't cure everything. Thanks for sharing the article!

I was raised a Christian, have been baptised and all. I'm not a Christian or religious anymore. I've struggled for years with my own anxiety and depression, and have had to deal also with Christian family who would constantly be blind about it, and I was face to face with affirmation slike : "it's all God's plan" and "help yourself, the heavens will do the rest"... And things like that. I have nothing personally against Christian and religious people in general but sometimes it's better to say nothing than unconsiderate and mean things like that.
We have never talked about what the Bible said about suicide, but I can guess it won't be a joyful discussion...

Most of the time when I end up in arguments with Christians - it's because they make claims like this, while they also ironically find it acceptable for their god to torment the majority of humans forever after they are dead, even for very minor things, including thought crimes, consensual sex outside of marriage, and simply not loving their god in general. To me, it's like arguing with someone who is living with an abusive spouse because you want them to escape the abuse and be free, but all they do is tell you how wonderful their abuser is and how much they deserve to get beaten up.

It's sickening because the Bible pretty much says that all people are evil sinners who deserve to be tortured merely for existing, unless they love Jesus. It says that their good deeds have the same value as filthy rags, if those deeds are not being done for the purpose of pleasing the Christian god. What that means is, if you are an honest person who helps others every chance you get because you genuinely care about them, but don't love the Christian god, you'll receive the same punishment as mass murderers and rapists who just happened to not be Christians either (but at the same time, you can be a mass murderer or rapist and get into heaven by kissing some godly ass). I'm really glad that I don't believe this garbage anymore because this stuff never provided me with any hope when I was a believer. All it really did was provide my depressed mind with more fuel by confirming that I was as worthless as I felt, so I just accepted it until I realized that there was no good reason to believe any of it.

I know I probably just derailed this thread by ranting about this stuff, but all I can say is that the pro-life platitudes that come from Christians make me feel like I'm going to throw up inside my mouth, even more so than when they come from other sources. They'll say things like, "You are here for a reason!" and "Jesus loves you!" and then all I want to do is tell them to go fuck themselves. :hmph:

100 per cent all of you.

My (favourite) stories about Christianity, particularly Catholicism are: the gay cocaine fuelled orgies of bishops on the grounds of the Vatican, and much more sadly and less funny, the recent story about sex abuse and forced abortion on nuns. So much hypocrisy and lies.

A few years or was it ten years ago when I was really depressed, I found somewhat more helpful stuff written by depressed Christians (I'm not a Christian myself) who were talking about how they were aware they were not the only ones suffering, and also that Christ suffered. I found that somehow more meaningful (though small comfort) than all this bullshit about how Jesus is going to heal my Clinical Depression.

I had one (really offensive) child of a shop assistant in a health food store, when I was buying yet more supplements for depression but I said to her that nothing worked - say, "well maybe it's spiritual." I have been meaning to write a complaint letter about that for a while. Constant suicidal thoughts from morning to evening are not fucking spiritual. Also would she have said it was "spiritual" if I couldn't find a cure for terminal cancer?

I know she was just a silly kid believing in fairies and whatnot, but really I have enough to deal with this pain, without these shitty comments about spirituality.
I might have posted this before in a different version - but it is my favourite religion story: https://nypost.com/2017/07/05/vatican-cops-bust-drug-fueled-gay-orgy-at-cardinals-apartment/

Quite funny how the lead figure was subsequently "on spiritual retreat"

Some of the religions were created in order to control people. Religions are not bad themselves, but I think that some people are/were merely trying to make people live in fear of doing something wrong. It is so fucking awesome that if a baby dies before being baptized, he/she goes to hell/heaven with his/her mom and if you don't believe in god, you go to hell. Sounds like people created this bullshit, not god if it exists. Fear of eternal suffering is a nice excuse for such truth-revealers. Inquisition, punishment, etc. is the product of such a fear mongering. If god is love, then why Mao Zedong, Stalin and Hitler killed less people altogether than directly or indirectly killed disciples of god? Religion is not supposed to murder lots of people, but it can be used as an excuse to tyranny. I don't like the Holy Bible as well. It is a bloody book. And I cannot understand why Christians keep their god on cross. This is a pure violence.

I'm loving the responses here. I used to be a Christian until I started looking at it. Didn't take long to quit. It's messed up to see everyone around me brainwashed with that garbage and trying to get me to believe again. Bottom line is that if God were here this world wouldn't look like this. It was lies put in a book to get people to believe in a false god. Everyone going to church is paying a preacher to tell them fairy tales.

God isn't going to heal you, Jesus isn't going to help you. And you're not going to hell for non belief. If you don't help yourself, you won't get helped.

Someone on a mental health group posted that Jesus cures depression under one of my posts about being depressed....

Erm, so I posted this: https://www.latimes.com/california/...ornia-megachurch-pastor-mental-health-suicide

I am a Christian and I believe there is something after we die, a God or higher power, I believe in rebirth but I don't believe in Church or a man made religion i have a link to prove that religious books are corrupted to a Countries leaders own views and how many times has this happened over the past 1 millions years. There were over 6000 priests being investigated for sexual offences against children so to be honest do they really believe in what they are preaching.

I will admit they do a lot for the homeless in the UK and I did like a few priests growing up but they had faith and believed in the Church, even if there was nothing after we die, it's fine we are all going to experience it.

I remember on religion lessons we were talking about differences in Catholic Church and Orthodox Church. The untold differences were: many Catholic priests "love" children while in Orthodox Church priests love money. So it is a bit annoying when you see a Russian priest going back home on a new SUV while grannies donate their last money to church. E.g. in 90s Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has been a largest supplier of foreign cigarettes in Russia with profit more than 1 billion dollars. Everybody already forgot that until years ago when people spotted a watch on his wrist for 30 grand dollars. They offer to live a modest life but do not refrain from all the goods in this world.

Sounds like most other televangelists, biggest con artists on the planet. Except some in America sell drugs on the side.
