What would happen if I tried to fly with my 500g sealed SN bottle overseas? In my checked in bag.

I'm not for certain but I have seen videos of how a lot of the time they have xray devices that search luggage that goes under the plane. Mainly looking for contraband and illegal drugs. I'm not sure if it would work but I would suggest being careful and definitely doing some research because they can open your bag and confiscate it and find the owner and question them if they see something they suspect isn't allowed. Also the sniffing dogs too that are trained to alert for different things I'm not sure if SN could be included. But I guess it also can depend on where you are flying to with it.

Sniffing dogs are trained for drugs they also have little paper sheets of sorts that can change colour when in contact with an illegal substance. SN is not really illegal substance.

I only did a simple google search. From what I can tell it's not illegal to carry sodium nitrite in baggage. But considering how much attention it's getting in the press as a method of ctb, there's a chance that you may be pulled aside and questioned about it. In that case you can just say that you're using it for curing meat. You can't be detained for it. Just know that the rules might differ in countries other than those in the west.

Why not simply just ship it to where you're going?

Someone mentioned here since it's a strong oxidizer it facilitates flame and explosions or something and that it might be a problem.

Search for some fancy salt in the place you currently are and put the SN in the packaging of that salt. If it gets noticed then you can say that it's salt that you wanted to bring home because you liked it so much.

"SN is not really illegal substance." , this makes no sense. The substance is rather banned or allowed.

Don't overthink it. You just have to answer some questions:

- Is the resource banned in the airport or the specific aircraft, company you are flying with?
- Is the resource banned in the country you are in?
- Is the resource banned in the country you are moving to?

I think you can find all the answers on the internet, either by entering the name of the substance or the chemical code or the CAS number.

Illegal -> not legal to possess
Restricted but legal -> difficult to obtain but legal to possess

It is true. But your main goal is to pass airport security.I don't think Xrays can detect it, but as someone said you can just put it in a salt bag, with some pasta and tomato and pretend it to be your meal for your stay in a BnB or something like that.

Maybe mine is just anxiety, but i think we both agree that messing with airports is a bad idea.

What about customs? It could work
...the only problem is that the destination would be Canada. They are tough on SN
It's a meat preservative. You're good!

I'd ship it. There's a company owned by Jeff B*zos that used to ship it everywhere. If they ask you if it contains any explosives or hazardous materials just say nope!

Hopping on a plane with SN in your luggage looks super suspicious. But, hey?

Oxidizing agents and poisons are usually prohibited items for air travel:

There's a good chance you won't be checked but if it was found and identified then it could be seized. It's probably a good idea as others have said to not pack it in the original container.
