This is a huge one. I think for alot of suicidal folks, the fear of surviving and the bodily damage that can come with that are one of the biggest obstacles when it comes to ending it. Though some do attempt as a cry for help, my honest opinion is that failing such an attempt would have huge consequences for yourself, not only will you be stuck with the pain and depression of living but with the added aliment of brain damage, blindness, liver damage, etc depending on your method of choice.

One of the most gruesome suicide survivals I've seen was a guy who'd tried to end it all by shooting himself through the head via open mouth method. He'd got the angle wrong and blew his entire face off. He lived.

That's not to mention vegative states, scars and possible surgeries needed. Then getting thrust through the system by professionals who don't understand you.

I agree that that fear is a big one. "Getting thrust through a system by professionals who don't understand you" is probably the origin of the kidnapped-by-aliens cultural meme.

However, as an option to a progressive disease that leaves a person increasingly weary, lonely, incapacitated and dependent on impatient people, it starts to sound worth the risk.

I think as long as you don't act on impulse and took your times in researching before doing the odds and risks will be low and you are likely fine.

I think the fear of failure is what holds lots of people back from CTB. I have my SN, Primperan and Tagamet in place. So just waiting for the right time if there can be a right time! Scared of failure and waking up still here and being totally devastated!

I think a lot of people have those same thoughts.

Yes, it is true that there is always a chance of failure, but as long as one can reduce that chance of failure to as close to zero (even though non-zero) percent as possible, the better. For me, I know that with 99.9% certainty when I use a firearm, I will succeed because I researched it extensively, practiced the angles for correct placement of the firearm, and then also dryfire a bit (which helps me know when the firearm will discharge should there be a live round in there). Also, meditation and music as well as reminiscing painful thoughts to help further my suicidal drive (lowers SI a bit more). That's about all I can do to be honest, sometimes SI just gets in the way, but as long as I can override it, even enough temporarily, I should be able to go through with my attempt.

Anyways, I don't think you will ever fully overcome the fear (even if it is subconscious) because humans are so ingrained biologically to survive as are all living organisms.

Practice does make it easier. Helps overcome the fears and knowing what you will be going through, til the last second. Can't say SI won't kick in though

This is why I wish N was so much easier to get. There will be no guarantee of failure (unless you ingest too little and end up in a coma).

I wouldn't mind being in a coma so long as I never wake up from it, and it's the type where you hallucinate a long long dream.
