The past week I have been extremely depressed about the state world . I am a black female. Last week in the UK there were protests over the week about George Floyd and racism in the UK .

Seeing all these protests on the TV I felt nothing but despair and absolute sadness like never before. I still feel this way. I was having a bath yesterday and I wanted to drown myself and not make it to surface level.

It is 2020 we should not be discussing racism . It is so sad we are still discussing this . It makes me so sad people can't other people as human beings. We all have different skin but we all bleed red. We are one race the human race.

These issues of racism and the conversation should have been had years ago . The 1960s,1970s,1980s , 1990s were an ideal period to discuss to racism as equality legislation was developing during these periods. Equality legislation is great but it still does not go far enough . The issues are racial bias , economic inequalities among certain groups and corruption within systems . Equality legislation is sometimes feels like sticking a plaster on massive crack on a wall rather than repairing the wall

In the UK there talking of removing statutes linked to slavery.

2020 we should be finding cures for diseases , reducing homeless, making mental health care system accessible for mental illness sufferers , navigating cyber war fare and eliminating nuclear missiles , legalisation of cannabis, reducing the gender pay gap , tackling climate change . My ideas are crazy. I hoped 2020 would be the year the world really advanced in terms of technology, tackling climate change

Watching the space X and NASA launch was the only thing that made me happy last month .

I feel like we are going backwards not forwards.
Maybe I am really I am losing it

Does anyone feel depressed about the the state of the world?

The world is in a pretty bad state but has been for a long time. The problem is that, the worse things get, the more overwhelmed people feel and so the harder for them it is to feel they can do anything, or to feel hope in general. The protests are a good thing but I agree it's an outrage they still have to take place.

Yeah, it seems like things that should have already been done are not being done. And some of them are still being debated. It's depressing. Power is getting more and more centralized, so it feels like people don't have any authority in what happens with their lives either. And other countries, like mine, haven't even made a slight effort to bring those issues up.

As long as there's money to be made, human greed will always take precedence over progress. There's little profit to be made in finding cures for diseases as research is extremely expensive, and the costs are recouped through price-gouging. Mental health care is only useful for getting people back to work and making more money, even better if you can extract some money from them while you do so. Don't even get me started on climate change, we're already behind on everything and likely won't see the full effects until it's truly too late.

The only positive is that the world has been dismantling nuclear weapons for decades since SALT and START, and New START is expected to be renewed next year. The world is a better place than it was before, but it's hardly reassuring because the world has always been awful. Nothing will change human nature and nothing a single person does has any effect.

So yes, very depressed.

Isn't there positives to take from it though? Like the fact that many people feel so passionately? Unless of course they're just there to make themselves look good. There's always that and it never ends well. Just seems like people don't learn anything or they don't apply it to themselves anyway. If it wasn't racism it would be something else because it's no coincidence those that are racist have every other negative trait going too. It's whatever they can use because they're truly sad and pathetic human beings that'll never take responsibility for their own problems
