• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

So recently, I've been noticing that YouTube comment sections have becoming increasingly, well, terrible~ :( and well, ig, it's not true for just YouTube but everywhere like Twitter too~ >_< Everyone wants to be the "funny guy" who can say a quick quip and get the most likes or whatever~ It reminds me of how a whole lot of threads on Reddit about how to do something have tons of replies such as "touch grass", "just do it", etc.~ No one cares about saying anything nice nor helpful more than just being "funny"~ and it's honestly just gross~ I never liked memes much compared to kyute animal videos ofc, and seeing every comment section always get flooded with them is just awful! :( I guess it's unfortunate that as society becomes more and more consumed with trash, I fail to fit in more and more~ :(

What shocks me even more is how nasty some people are. Like- it can be the most inoffensive video and there's a whole load of hate in the comments.

That's what amazes me about this place. For the majority of the time, people are mostly civil and yet, we're talking about the most controversial subjects there are pretty much. Things very likely to cause intense emotional reactions yet, there's (comparatively) less shit talk. Not always of course but, mostly I think.

Redditors legit can be some of the nastiest people you can come across on the internet. Super passive aggressive in their responses, and if you don't post the correct response, you get downvoted to hell or get banned off of a specific subreddit, or both. Reminds me of petty high school drama really. As for the "bleeding effect" it has on the Twitter or Youtube comments; Reddit is one of the most popular websites on the internet. It naturally is going to spill onto other popular social media platforms.
Kind of sucks, but people spewing vitriol and/or epithets towards others which tend to elicit a more emotional response, is unfortunately a part of human nature.

personally i think there is a jarring lack of empathy online. no one gives a steaming shit about anyone and just says whatever. i don't use social media at all besides youtube, so i think everyone is just so chronically online that they think they're replying to a bunch of text instead of an actual person.

yeah, agreed~ :( but unfortunately, it's just a symptom of humans lacking empathy everywhere~ Many people just act kind and sympathetic irl, but they will gladly do nothing in order to help a group or abandon someone in their time of need~ :(
it's like empathy needs to be learned through hardship and even then, it can lack~ after all, many people who get out of hardship think that everyone can just by working hard, but unfortunately, not all hardships nor people's goals are the same~ :(

I think some of the subreddits are being brigaded, because I refuse to believe people can be that stupid.
See 'worldnews' for example.

Reddit is toxic as hell. If you post anything out of curiosity you get downvoted to oblivion and the comments you get have some hostility to them, you can sense it. Glad I deleted it.

But still a good place to look for a quick answer to a random question.

Unfortunately, too true for both of these~ >_< and yes, it definitely is worth it to stop using it~ :)

The internet is being systemically destroyed, probably already has been. I don't bother with reddit because its just a place to manufacture consent. You can be sure the US government and corporations have giant bot farms to sway opinions whichever way they want.

Growing up with the OG dialup internet was so awesome. It was all humans. I really miss those times. I say we bring back the BBS. It was like a local internet you could dial into with your modem. That's another thing with the current internet; they've removed all the local functions it use to have. AOL and Yahoo both had chat rooms for every city/state in the US. It was always easy to find someone local to you, to talk to. In my opinion that was destroyed on purpose to further alienate and divide people. Ask yourself why we have the most powerful means of connection ever invented, yet people are the lonest they've ever been. Makes no logical sense.

That's crazy~ >_< How terrible for them to get rid of it tbh! :/ but yeah, I've definitely felt it getting worse, even more recently than dial-up~ and it'd be surely be nice to not be lonely anymore... :(

Nah this can't be the case since we have extensive historical proof that the government is awful at doing anything. Yes that includes bad things. It's just people. If people are nasty and people notice that like in this post then people will simply not bother to communicate or interact since they have a bad taste directly or indirectly. Companies are at the whims of the people. If people don't use certain features that much then why bother and just get rid of it.

I'm not entirely denying the influence of higher powers but it's not as extensive as one may believe.

I think a degree of this comes down to the site design. Most other places operate on a like only basis where downvotes/dislikes don't really have any effect. On Reddit they actually do play a part, so it becomes a constant battle of fitting in or saying the funny one liner and avoiding any hot takes or you get hidden.

Anyone who's suicidal has way more empathy than the average person because they feel so much pain all the time...

I think the majority of humans are too cruel to be around, only the minority are decent. That means most people on the internet don't have any problem ruining others' day, that's a problem with humanity, one of the reasons I hate being here in this world.

Definitely true, and with Reddit being one of the most popular social media websites on the internet, and someone like Ghislaine Maxwell being one of the top mods on the entire website, I have my suspicions it is ran that way purposefully to deceive, divide, and destroy any sort of meaningful conversation or ideas about the state of society or the world. It's Ted Kaczynski's/George Orwell's nightmare come to life.
