According to Julio Cabrera, most philosophy assumed from the start, without any philosophical/moral reason to do so that life was a net positive in itself. Some specific lifes may be bad, we may debate whether suicide can be justifiable in some cases or not, whether some lifes can be so negative that it's better to terminatse them, but life in itself was always considered positive. According to Cabrera, this is the mother of all mistakes, the mistake that leads to most of the contorsions, absurdities, and inapplicability of philosophy.

According to Cabrera, the good and the bad things in life can't be compared, they are from a different category all together. The negative things stems from the very STRUCTURE of life, how ? Since we are born, we are put in a terminal structure (a terminal body, subject to decay and degradation, illnesses and running toward death), it's stuructrally the case, there is no people or organisms who progress from death to good health and full life, no people who progress from old ill-health to youngful vitality. it's not something relative to specific life. We are also put into some conditions that makes it IMPOSSIBLE for us to be moral, Cabrera calls it "Moral Disqualification", because not only is our very being fragile and terminal, not only are we subject to some pains that are bound to make us egoistic for the sake of survival and protection, but also because we are constantly fighting for space, time and ressources. Even if i intend you no harm, my projects often enter into conflict with yours, the good quality of life of some people cannt be without the mistery of other countries and poor workers (we need more than 2 earths for instance of ressources if everybody living were to have european standards), i may give you time and listen to you, but at that same time i'm depriving another worthy person of that time and that attention. You may be happy you finally got a date with the person you like, but if you didn't enter into the picture at that moment, that person would've dated another one, now you're the satisfied one and his preferences are frustrated. For Cabrera, every living being is morally disqualified, the classical moral just operates a second disqualification amid the initial disqualification, declaring some things morals and others not, because it takes the positively of lige for guaranted. While the moral thing would be : to not procreated from the start, to avoid this situation from the beginning. we can't just be moral with the conditions of life as it is and our situation in the world.

What about the positive ? Well for Cabrera, positive values, pleasures etc are REACTIVE, ONEROUS, AND INTRA-WORDLY. By intra-wordly Cabrera means that they aren't inherent in the very structure of being, they are just created (often hallucinated) by us to cope with the very negative structure of being. You may live a life without dating, or without enjoying art, or believing in "human rights", and those aren't inherent in the very nature of things. By reactive he means they are seeked only to soothe the negative things : food to assuage hunger, love to assuade feelings of lineliness, incompletude, lack, void, distractions to avoid boredom etc etc. By onerous he means not only that they are costly in the expense of energy, efforts, and all the frustrations and deceptions that will take a toll onr "your soul" before you reach those positives things (if you ever do), but also that it only comes by hampering others projects and pleasure-seeking as we are constantly in competition for space, ressources, jobs, mates, attention etc etc.

Interesting philosophy, thanks for sharing. I'm going to have to do some more reading about this.
