Euphoria before suicide

A friend of me plans to commit suicide this spring, he tells me that he feels euphoric and that it is normal to be euphoric before suicide. We will die together but I don´t feel any euphoria. Does anybody know whether this is true or just an urban legend? Has it to do with "The Euphoria of the Dying"?
