I'm chronically ill and becoming increasingly restricted physically. I'm also watched like a hawk by my abusive parents. I have sodium nitrite but am somewhat hesitant to use it because our house is small and they could be easily alerted if I become sick.

I am considering ending it this week on short notice because I've reached my limit, I think. I live about 10 minutes away from the ocean. There's a long pier that extends deeply into turbulent water. If I jumped in, I would be too weak to save myself. Is this an awful idea? How painful would it be?

People are split on drowning. Either its the most painful thing you will experience or you will feel slight discomfort and black out , feeling little pain if any at all.

So.... guess we gotta find out ourselves lol

That's my method too

The sn sounds alot better, also at a public pier the chance of being rescued would or could happen.

Are you planning to combine it with alcohol/pills?

I don't really have a suitable location to use the Sn ... the pier would be completely deserted if it's the middle of the night.

How long does it take to die though? By drowning?. I once had a cardiac arrest and was fully awake talking to the doc for 30 seconds after the arrest.

Not sure actually .. but it's quite a deserted area and there aren't really any houses around, and the pier extends far out ..

I heard about 18 minutes to die

And anywhere from seconds to a few minutes to lose conciousness

I almost drowned as a kid, and it didn't take that long for me to start losing consciousness. I obviously didn't drown but I got really close to it and it was more uncomfortable and despairing than painful to me. If I didn't have other viable methods, I wouldn't be opposed to go out by drowning.

If you want to use this method, maybe it is a good idea to take sleeping medicine or the kind of med that numbs your muscles/body, to make it more difficult for survival instinct to get in your way. Like I said, the despair was real for me, and your body most likely will try to swim back to the shore. Though you say you are somewhat physically restricted, so maybe you won't be able to swim back? I don't know.

Good luck.

I am so fucking scared of drowning. This is my worst method ever after burning. Burning is just fucking terrible. There is a reason why hell is not water.

Drowning is painful dude, just saying. You can feel your lungs fill with water as you choke gallons down your throat. It hurts like hell, like a burning sensation. Not trying to scare you, just warning you that there are faster and less painful methods.

Former NHL player just drowned this morning in Hamilton Ontario. He was swimming and didn't resurface.

I also almost drowned as a kid, maybe 1-2 yo. It took a while to be rescued, but i dont remember it at all.
Ever since then i allways loved to be in the water and my biggest dream is to afford a pool, wich never going to happen. So it cant have been painful? Perhaps its diffrent for adults, but i think that if you want to die its a relativly fast process.
