Was curious to know the views of you guys. I am sure I want to CTB but my SI is so freaking bad I feel scared to even source my SN which is my method.

my opinion on this is that there will always be a little niggle to stop you. But if it's strong enough to make you seriously doubt doing it then always listen to that doubt and look at any other options you may have. Once ctb is successful there is no second chance so you've got to be sure it's your time. I made a ctb attempt and was found but I knew I wanted death more than life and that put me on override vs SI if that makes sense

No, I think if you have tried countless and times and failed then you are not ready, but what is ready? Our mind and our choices are ours and ours only, SI can be pushed through and over come regardless, to me its just a natural instinct kicking in when it senses danger,

I've wondered this too. I think some people would argue that if your SI stops you then you're not ready but I'm not convinced. The less I knew about methods I feel the less SI was a problem. Now I know the potential for failure I feel this has fueled my SI. For me fear of failure does not mean I want to live

I don't know if it will help, but I came up with a theory about SI:

Survival instinct is a message: "I just can't." Because of this message, one aborts an attempt, or never attempts certain methods at all.

The message may or may not be related to the method. If it is related to the method, one can conceivably suicide by a different method that is personally agreeable/non-fear inducing to them to attempt, and to experience without aborting, due to rapid loss of consciousness. If the message is motivated by pure survival instinct, it will arise in relation to any method, regardless of peacefulness, and one will be either prohibited from attempting or will abort any attempt.

An imminent threat that is worse than any fear of the method or its outcome will override the survival instinct, and change the message from "I just can't" to "I can." The threat must be perceived as worse than fear of the method and/or death, thus turnining suicide into an act of self-preservation and therefore survival.

If you're curious and want to know more, the full OP (which I only partially quoted) and some of the comments in the thread describe how I came to these conclusions, based on my own attempts and those of others.
