I've lived alone for the past 2-3 years, and have realised that I talked to myself quite a lot around the house. Just little comments, sometimes like I was talking to my cat, other times not.

It's only recently whilst I've been on my travels to my final destination that I've become more aware of it. I've found myself talking to all sorts of animals, from cats and dogs to insects, in public. Also just vocalising thoughts that pop into my head. I'm sure this must appear a bit strange to those around me, although I haven't noticed any funny looks. My voice doesn't carry well, and my comments are generally rather quiet, so maybe they don't notice or just ignore it.

Just curious if anyone else does the same.

I do too. Glad I am not the only one. When I'm alone, I just start speaking my thoughts. The second someone is around, I am as silent as mouse.

Oh yes, all the time mostly to my self but sometimes to my dogs. It helps me think a bit better, but sometimes I don't realise I'm doing it and people over hear and think I'm very strange. Also good to know im not the only one lol.
Edit; I am usually very quiet too, alot of the time when i do actually talk. I have to repeat my self to people because I'm so quiet.

Phew. For a while there, I was beginning to think I was the only one. Just noticed I also talk to my food when eating.

Yes, I think due to the past few years of isolation I softly vocalize my thoughts a lot more now.

I've been trying to stop but it's become so subconscious I forget I'm doing it. Unless someone else is around of course, then I become hyper self-aware... (most of the time).

Actually it's totally normal to speak to yourself, it's just that some people do and some don't

Same.

I have spent so much time isolated that I have lost memory muscle. Once you loose memory muscle, some phonemes start to be difficult to pronounce. One phoneme happens to be in my name and now giving my name ( ex. when making an appointment ) is really frustrating because I know in advance Im not going to be misunderstood. The damage is not permanent. You can recover if you start to socialize again or, in my case, read aloud for half an hour a day.

I have conversations with myself sometimes. Just talking things over out loud, like I would do thinking. Slightly thought I might be going insane here. Glad I'm not the only one.

All the time, and sometimes at length. I will laugh and smile to myself too, even when people could potentially see me. I don't even have too much awareness of it anymore, I just kind of talk about what I want to even if I look crazy. Besides, other people are boring and shitty, and have bad ideas. I know I can trust myself to come up with things I want to hear.

Sometimes I do, but the conversations always end badly with myself so I try to avoid it.

I thought I was the only one who talked to insects, haha. I adore all animals (more or less) and can't help myself from talking to them. It's just part of my nature. I talk to myself all the time too. I'm pretty isolated, so it probably stops me from going completely insane. This is embarrassing, but I also spend a lot of time (maladaptively) daydreaming about having conversations with people, and often end up saying things (or laughing) out loud. I obviously try not to do that when there are others around. If anyone were to overhear me, they'd probably think I'd completely lost my marbles.

Me too, except mosquitoes. When I talk to them, it's not in a positive way :shy:

Got a fruiting palm tree just outside my hotel room at the moment, and I love seeing the bats feeding off it during the night.

Understandable, haha. There are no mosquitoes where I live, but plenty of biting midges, and I have no kind words for them either. :))

What a lovely sight that must be. I often see pipistrelles on my evening walks. I love bats and actually find them cute (it helps that they eat the midges!)

A lot of the time since I have lots of racing thoughts sometimes. I have a tendency to think aloud. I generally try to avoid it when there are people around since I'd rather not draw attention to myself or let people know what I'm really thinking about.

It's normal to talk to yourself with a few sentences here and there. But once you start having lengthy conversations with yourself, people are going to think something is wrong with you.

The only way for me to have thoughts is to put them in a conversation or a performance, so yeah, that happens a lot. I've often paced around my room visualizing myself on a stage saying stuff to others.

When I'm struggling to understand something or I'm doing a complicated task I talk myself through it, which usually leads to people thinking I'm talking to them. Sometimes I am talking to them... But it's mostly me trying to organise the thoughts in my head haha

I think it is completely normal for people that live an reclusive/isolated lifestyle.
I, for one started talking to myself as a kid and it never dissapeared, in fact it got worse: it used to be small comments as you mentioned, nowadays everytime i'm home alone i basically rant in high voice about anything that comes to mind, like something appears on the news and i pick on that and then it's non stop even spreading to other topics that come to my mind.

I have conversations with myself both in my head and out loud. Out loud ones are more often though. I think it's common even for people that aren't isolated.

Yes. It can help you when it comes to mental discipline and boosting morale. In the past, why did soldiers sing and chant before battle? It wasn't just to intimidate the enemy.

Yes. When I'm alone I rant to myself about my contempt for those around me. I'm pretty fucking curmudgeonly.
