Does anybody else want to be remembered?

I want to die more than anything but am I the only person who wants to be remembered? I'm trying to start a youtube channel to document my existence & have proof I was here. Or maybe that's a stupid idea lol

its up to you really. if you want to leave a somewhat permanent mark of yourself then a yt channel sounds good. i myself wouldn't want to be remembered. i want myself to be forgotten as soon as possible after my death.

i just dont want my friends and family to have their memories soured by the memory of me. ive been a burden on them for most of my life and they've gone through some shit because of me. i just want them to forget about me and carry on with their lives.

I want people to at least know that I suffered, that I felt horrible, immense pain. I know they'll forget me after a week, but as long as they know that someone they knew suffered so much that's enough. Because these are people who think that suffering doesn't exist, that it's always on the other side of the world out of sight and they don't care at all. Maybe it would make them care about other people then.

I don't think it's a stupid idea to do something so that others will remember you existed. Lots of people don't want to be forgotten and want to leave their mark sort of thing. Good luck with your YT channel if you decide to do it.

i would really, really like to be remembered. actually, i started writing my note the other day and i mentioned a way i'd want people to remember me: that being by lighting a vanilla (or honey) scented candle and letting it burn out till completion in one go.

i think it's a stupid thing, but it would be nice.

Omg Same. Smelling like a cupcake is like my entire brand so I want my entire YouTube channel to be my suicide note. I don't think it's stupid at all! I think that's so cute you have your own special thing that would get people to remember you!!

i grew up with my mother always having a candle lit, and now that i live alone i do the same thing. it's so relaxing to watch the flame flicker on

I don't think this is a stupid idea at all. I could see how it would be meaningful to leave little bits of yourself to share. I think it's sweet and thoughtful way to examine your life.

It is normal to want to be remembered but futile. In a hundred years, all of this could simply be deleted off a server and made unrecoverable. Google has already talked about deleting inactive YouTube accounts and the videos on them because the cost of the immense cost of storing all that data - and corporations only care about profits. Likewise, Social Media profiles can and will disappear, my MySpace profile doesn't exist anymore in any way, shape or form. The Internet Archive and The Wayback Machine are under constant attacks from many fronts.

It is improbable we will be remembered until the end of our species as the great people of history will. But the entropy of things will take them too.

As the saying goes: You die twice. First, when your mind ceases to function permanently. Second, when your name is uttered for the last time.

I'm conflicted. If I do CTB, I would be sad if people forgot about me, but at the same time if they remember me that would cause them pain and sadness. I wish that I could erase my existence from everyone's mind.

A part of me wants to be remembered. But then, another part of me is just fine with being forgotten. I certainly don't want people to be sad- so- maybe it's better if they forget quickly.

I suspect for most, I may simply end up as a thought that pops in rarely, rather than anything consistent. I'm not really a consistent part of many people's lives now.

I used to want my (creative) work to be remembered but then, I'm not delusional to believe it's good enough for that.

In 500 years, the human race will have progressed to a point where even the current biggest stars from today will only be remembered by the few fascinated by history (if we haven't destroyed ourselves by then).

I used to obsess about doing 1 thing that was so good it would stand the test of time. All I needed was one song or one movie to be remembered.

Shit. People from the future looking back at us will probably see even the most "woke" libs as horrible, backwards people with prejudice. The same way we look back at people from the past and mumble, "it was the times they lived in, I guess." Then some dog boy android in history class will go, "Ew, gross, they ate animals and wiped their asses with paper. MADE FROM TREES! What monsters..."

So none of it matters. Be gay, do crime.

I don't think it's a stupid idea, go for it. For me though, I won't go to any trouble to document anything. For the very few people I may have mattered to, I know I'll be remembered, same way I'll remember them. The rest really doesn't matter. It all comes to nothingness, with memories for some.
