I plan on killing myself in 2041, by that time I would have established myself in life and have no other goals as well has having sufficient funds for me to CTB.

Do you guys think that by that time people will become more accepting to suicide or will pro-life get worse?

Hmm.

I don't think so. At least not in the US.

Might just be me, but it feels like there's a higher percentage of people today that comfortably joke about and genuinely express a desire for death. Feel like eventually a good portion of these people will end up developing an established desire for it, which could lead to some things happening, but it just doesn't seem very likely that these kinds of changes could come to fruition after only 16 years. I could see the public opinion of suicide becoming more accepting though, but it's difficult to say for sure.

I think this will go the same way any other social progress in any other area happens.

There will be more liberal countries which will be more accepting, both in terms of public opinion and maybe even some new laws. Then there will be countries where public opinion changes for the better but the leadership and the politicians will not want to do anything about it, and then there will also be heavily conservative countries which might start fighting against any such progress.

But overall I think the world will move forward, probably very slowly, and then will continue moving forward in the following decades.

I think certain European countries together with Canada and Australia might be the ones that progress first from where they are now as far as this topic goes.

I think CTBing on your own will get increasingly difficult, as methods like SN, guns, high bridges, etc. become more restricted. By 2041 I imagine that nearly all the levers for suicide will be in the hands of the state, so your ability to end your own life will essentially be determined by how liberal your country is.

We already see this concentration of power in my country, Canada, where you can't so much as buy extra-strength ibuprofen without talking to a pharmacist, where you can have the police knocking at your door if they suspect you have intentions of "harming yourself" (happened to me)...but at the same time MAID is being expanded and should be available to people suffering solely with mental illness by 2027 (if all goes according to plan).

I don't think it will ever be legal in the US! You would think by so many people needing, desperately wanting to live forever and needing organs they would help us. I'd hate to think I'd be here still in 2041 šŸ˜¢

I think assisted suicide will be legalised for very specific cases- terminal or chronic illness. As for everyone else- I suspect they will continue to try to restrict access to any method they can. To make methods accessable- they would need to regulate them. Who will they regulate them to? I imagine- still a very small minority who multiple doctors agree have a terrible quality of life.

Seeing as they likely won't open it up for more people- that means they would kind of have to put restrictions on substances commonly used in suicide. They can't expect a company to assess the mental stability of a person when they are buying say SN- in case they are intending to use it to suicide with. The company may not even be able to assess age accurately. The question is more like: Will we ever live in a time period where parents are ok with their children- possibly minors killing themselves? I kind of doubt it.
