Do you personally know others who have experienced suicidal ideation?

Throughout the past 12 months I have gotten closer (without specifically trying to) with two people who eventually turned out to have lived through ideation and even attempts. At the moment they are my only potential support network and pretty much my entire social circle. I wonder if anyone here can relate to just happening to attract someone with this supposedly rare experience

Yes, I have friends who have experienced ideation. Even one who has attempted a couple of times.

My dad tried to ctb with a knife years ago when I was just a kid, my little brother said he was depressed and my parents said it wasn't real when we were teenagers. He tried to ctb with CO poisoning in a garage years later, my sister has also said she wanted to ctb because of depression but I never asked her about it in depth. Older brother has threatened to ctb but I'm not sure how serious he was about it. Have had a few friends who had ideation but never elaborated on methods or if they even attempted at all.

I know it's not rare to be suicidal when you think about the amount of people just on this site alone.

a close friend of mine irl has told me somewhat recently that he's has suicidal ideation. he's going to college in another town right now so i don't see him much, i wish we had more chance to talk proper.

Meeting people who are likeminded in that regard isn't rare for me

I think that those who are mentally ill just gravitate towards me
I'd say I've met and maintained connections with about *eight suicidal people
And those are just the ones who admitted to me that they were suicidal

Some of my internet friends are quite struggling and experienced suicidal ideation as well. One of them even attempted at some point. We sometimes talking about this but not too much.

I know two friends who likely tried on multiple occasions (one of which sent a goodbye text before an attempt) and three more which might be/might have been suicidal, though I don't know for sure
I do find it interesting how suicidal people tend to "flock". Ingroups are crazy

There can be a lot of suicidal people even if they are rare because the copious amounts of humans on earth and all that

I have a friend who had gone to the psych ward bc of sh and we both openly talk about suicide. with other friends, it's mostly just jokes so I can't really tell if they actually have serious ideations. they're all mentally ill in some way, probably passive suicidal too, but I doubt any of them are brave enough to commit (literally and figuratively).

Outside of this side? A couple of people have mentioned it to me. One mentioned it after the fact when they thanked me for pulling them through it without me even knowing something was going on.

Yea. My boyfriend used to constantly experience suicidal ideation a year or two ago. I remember him texting me after an attempt. He isn't this way anymore, though.

yeah, 3 of my closest friends have all struggled with it. I don't know what it is maybe its my generation but saying things like i wanna die or I'm gonna kms is pretty normalized kinda like a joke?? The worst part about it is that even though all of my friends have been through it they don't understand me at all. I've come to the conclusion that most people are suicidal due to circumstance and dont actually want to die they just want someone to come save them. I've spoken to two of them about how I wouldnt want someone to save me and how I think that if someone actually wants to die we should let them be, they thought I was crazy and I thought they were crazy. But I finally get it now.
