I used to live in a big city in a foreign country and I felt completely invisible, like a ghost of some sort. I only knew my roommates and that's pretty much it. I didn't know any of my neighbors. I was spending most of my time in my room.

I'm probably moving back there for work. No idea how I'm mentally going to handle the loneliness.

I live in a city, I fucking hate the shit this is, people saysMadrid is beautiful, there is nothing beautiful here, is shitty and infernal. I hate tgis city exactly as much as I hate people who live here. I want to live in a quiet town, not here when people is rampagy as hell. I shit so much in them.

I think that's a big factor. I live in a city but it's not so big, yet I dread going out and using public transport, it's always crowded and I hate it. Sometimes I'm not having such a bad day but then I have to go out and it makes me miserable.

I grew up in the suburbs so I really am not used to living in the city, I hate it. There's so many...people. I can't even walk into Walmart because there's so many people shouting and, no seriously why do people have to shout so much? My suburbs was rich old people towns so I miss the slow pace, the calmness. Everywhere was a lot cleaner and safer too. Here I feel like I'm in a frenzy of chaos.

I live in a suburb but it's so close to the city And equally crowded. Traffic is bad, people are rude.

I live in a small town but in a bad crowded neighbourhood, which definitely contributed to the atmosphere at home.

Suburb. I am so happy I don't live in a rural area. I think I'd somehow go even more insane than I already am. When I was going to school in Illinois, I gained a whole new perspective on the meth epidemic. If I lived in some of the towns I drove through, the feds would have to pry the drug from my cold, dead fingers. (Fuck, on that thought, maybe living there wouldn't be too bad then, eh?)

When I went to school, I legit drove to the other side of the town and did my Walmart shopping at 3AM to avoid people at the grocery store. Those were the good ol' days. If I also wanted to avoid professors and other grad students seeing me buy alcohol by the cart, that's neither here nor there.

i read once people who live in the city are more likely to develop mentall disorders/depression

the reason is that people in the city experience more stress (which can happen without noticeing like people who lived at a crowded and loud street, get used to the noise but still get stressed subconscious).

the stress is caused by a state of distance and closeness at the same time. on the one hand you are surrounded by a ton of people every day every minute. you see them. you hear them. you smell them.

but on the other hand you dont interact witj them. you dont know what they want. if they are friendly or dangerous. eg i maybe know 1/10 of the people who live in my house. and this state lf uncertantity keeps your brain and body alarmed.

and this cause stress bc its unnatural.

our brain hast changed since stoneage. in the stoneage you lived in a group of 30 people max. traveling around in an empty landscape. encountering with strangers barely happened.

I've always lived in a suburbs. The closest I've ever lived to the city was on the Eastside as a really young kid in a poor familg which wasnt far away from outside of town but wasn't too far away from downtown either. Ever since then and even as a baby I've lived near the outskirts of our town.

Have lived in this town all my life. Born and raised here, still live here to this day.

Spent about ten years living in a city with close to a million inhabitants (if immediate adjacent cities are included). I seriously doubt anyone I have met there in the last 5 years remembers my name.
Due to depression I moved back in with my parents in my home town. At least now my brain is rotting less because I'm occasionally having an actual conversation. Sometimes I feel that I should go out more, but I don't know where to go because there is fucking people and cars everywhere I go. No peace whatsoever.

I'm in a big town but am looking to move 15 miles away from the street drinkers, lowlifes and dossers and rent a house in the forest. Would ideally like to do this with someone else to split costs and make it not total silent isolation.

I live in a relatively small town and on the outskirts. We have some beautiful countryside here which I love going around for walks in.

Wonder if I moved to a remote location like Alaska or somewhere and lived off the land if I'd be happier than the burdens of our current society!

I've lived in both. Currently in the city, which is something I've always wanted. I'm not in the thick of the downtown area and thankfully this is a place more spread out so it doesn't feel too clustered, even if the morning/afternoon traffic is massive garbage. I spent years growing up in rural areas, which while lovely, can be very disheartening and isolating and for a stretch lived in a small town when i was starting on my own. Everything closed at 9 except the gas station so I mostly lived on garbage around that time.
