• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

As someone born in a western country to parents from a 3rd world country thats also in a civil war, this has always mind boggled me. I sometimes talk to my family who live in said country and even though they're extremely unfortunate, they're still kicking it. But I, the person who's fortunate enough to be born in one of the richest countries in the world, am ready to gtf outta here.

Quality of life doesn't equate to wealth. Many of these countries' wealth comes from a billionaire class that sucks dry the resources of it's working class, this is certainly true for me as an American. This alters the data significantly when those few who hoard the majority of the worlds resources live in a few countries friendly to them. Many of these places have a sense of community that my country does not, an emphasis on culture my country does not (wiping out much of the Native culture of the region shows how just we have little real respect for culture, which is twisted and horrible). Here in the USA, there is a focus on the nuclear family rather than the "it takes a village" style of communal living, which is even more common in places like Europe. I think great access to tech further aggravates all of this. Just my thoughts though.

There are a few people on TikTok and other social media from places like Uganda and Kenya in Africa that are sharing their daily village life and how they live. They do not have a bunch of stuff like we have but they own land and farm it and have a community that takes care of each other and they are happy so long as they do not have any chronic illness or disability or sickness. Crazy huh?

I guess that says something about our current system of satisfying ourselves by having and buying nice things. Consumerism really isn't the end game for our species.

This sounds absolutely beautiful, by the way. Maybe this sounds ridiculous to say from the imperial core which so hurts regions like this, but I'm jealous of that level of love and family. What we gain in imperialism, we have totally lost in humanity.

It is. Of course there are pitfalls such as having governments that have no money to spend on welfare programs (but that's where community comes in) and unfortunately a lot of it has been colonized in the past so Islam and Christianity are the two main religions aside from a small percentage that practices traditional belief systems so if you are homosexual, disabled, or sick... you're gonna have a bad time. But for most people in those small villages, life is simple and that's what they are happy with.

pain is relative

not a fixed measurement

materialistic things like a nice car, house, money, doesn't necessarily stop suffering,

especially if its all you've ever known, I mean I don't want to sound spoiled or ungrateful but we are simply used to it. so it doesn't really derive any true pleasure. that's life

I marvel at the irony, some child in a 3rd world country would give anything to trade places with me, and I'd give anything to take my life away

Really old comedy skit about this exact question that I remembered. Might give you a laugh at least.

In lame man's terms
Give a child a lollipop then take it away
Child cries and throws a fit

Never give child lollipop in the first place
Child doesn't cry

Does that make sense?
