So my parents live overseas. And I am thinking that it would be easier on them if they thought I died of a car accident instead of suicide.

My best friend here is the executor , power of attorney, everything of everything after I die.

So if I leave a copy of my will showing my best friend's status, and I would leave a note telling the cops to call my friend, would they still call my next of kin overseas?

Would they release my body to my friend?

From my knowledge Next of Kin and Power of Attorney are two legal separate legal entities. In most countries, regardless of your status or wishes, the authorities will make attempts to notify your next of kin as its part of the protocol. They will also likely be the ones in receipt of the death certificate but I am not completely sure of that. If your best friend does not know of the plans you have made in all aspects of this, she/he themselves may try to notify your parents, its the decent thing to do.

From my experience in Australia. the coroner called my partner parents who lived in the UK at the time. to tell them that their daughter had passed away.
