Recently I saw that Canada is going to allow mentally ill people to apply for their assisted suicide this year. I'm definitely interested in it, do any of you know if people from the USA can access the program?

If I remember correctly, unfortunately, you have to be a Canadian citizen. You might have better luck with Sweden's program, but they're very selective.

Canada seems to have shelved that even for Canadian citizens anyways.

It would be interesting if everyone who would have applied for MAID due to hopeless psyche illness said as much in their eventual suicide notes. "Asked for MAID. Got this shotgun. Sorry about the mess …"

Although actually I think it's very difficult to get firearms throughout much of Canada too. I guess there's always leaping off a precipice in the Alberta Badlands, or just going up to Nunavut and freezing solid.

I feel saddened for those who genuinely wanted to cease their suffering and who would have been able to, even if only a few people.

i guess its available in Switzerland, but you have to meet their standards. for example, you need to be at least 18, you must be seriously ill and the disease must be incurable etc.

Too bad Canada doesn't offer healthcare to undocumented immigrants. There's one area the US leads Canada in healthcare.

The March date they planned to let mentally ill people be eligible was put on shelves again because of backlash and veing spineless of the government. The requirements are also so strict that being eligible is so low percentage. I heard they will disqualify you if you had previous suicide attempt. The government also banned selling and transferring gun ownership. So blackmarket for gun is the only option.
