Me! I was born in Decatur, Georgia, and have lived literally my whole life in Georgia. I have always dreamed of living in another state, somewhere up north or out west. I wonder if I will ctb before I am finally able to do so?

I grew up in Texas. I hated it. I moved to Massachusetts for work.

But nowhere near Boston; I'm out in the country. My neighbors are more bigoted, hateful, and racist than the garbage I left in Texas.

My mom is from Boston. Mass was a big part of my life. I can assure you the KKK type racists don't reign supreme throughout the state. Bigotry exists everywhere but it's not raging like the south. I was among mostly the lower class though, so class division played a much bigger role in our life than racial divides.

My father was from Arkansas and he was the biggest piece of garbage I've ever met. Ignorant, racist, angry, etc. He really lived out the stereotype. From my experience with family in those regions is that the ignorance is what fuels the outlandish hate in the south. The boomer generation in poor Arkansas has people with primary school level educations. My dad started working at 10. You don't find that in the culture up north.

Oh, I know it's not the entire state. I work much closer to Boston (about an hour commute), and everyone there is chill as fuck.

But then I go to house with a neighbor that told me "Man, I'm so glad you're white. They built that fucking mosque down the road. I was afraid some terrorist was gonna move in."

I moved 2,000 miles away to hear the same dumb shit I thought I was leaving behind.

Austin is trendy and it is growing. I have been there and could see the appeal

Houston is suburban sprawl clusterf*ck and I think Dallas about the same

There is a big difference between Texas and the rest of the south. When someone says Deep South they usually mean the states in between texas and Florida. Those states are some of the worst to live in the US if you have a liberal modernistic value set

I dislike pretty much everywhere in the US but Deep South is hands down the worst. If I had to live there I would have CTB already

I would add two big things for me. Football worship. And I do mean worship. Also, an almost total lack of, indeed hostility, to intellectual curiosity. This is probably related to the the fundy religion. I might as well add adoration of the military and war loving.

Before you CTB try living somewhere else that is not the deep south and maybe life will feel more valuable. Deep South USA sucks hard and is full of backwater morons. Definitely at least bought me another 10 years.

There are nice places in the south, generally the people are pretty nice. Something about some of the states feels off and, there's a lot of racial tension mainly in the south east states. Just not my cup of tea.

Texas is a decent place to live compared to a lot of other wealthy states because of taxes.

Well I have to say that I have really enjoyed visiting the south…one of the more interesting parts of the US … Amazing food, extremely nice people, complex and colorful history… But I'm sure living in some of these places must be awful… guns bigotry poverty …

Amazing food is in Louisiana. Cajun food is some of the best . It's probably the best for me personally.

Louisiana is very fat so they must be doing something right with the food
