carbon monoxide is in my opinion the least painful way to go as carbon monoxide gets in your lungs and sits there until you fall asleep. not only that, but you can watch a video on your phone or do whatever you want as a car is fairly comfortable.

its not often considered because on modern cars its hard to make happen and its said that its nearly impossible. the main reason for that is a little box on the back of the exhaust called the catalytic converter but more commonly referred to as the muffler. its not actually there to muffle the engine its there to take the carbon out of the exhaust and reduce the emissions. you can bypass this fairly easily either by drilling a hole in the exhaust near where it comes out of the cylinders, or you can loosen a few bolts (usually 2 sometimes more-however they are usually rusted on there so you will want some serious elbow grease or a wrench extension-a pipe is the most common way, and the sockets you will need are usually between 12-16 mm heads on some American cars its empirical not metric but its almost always metric and between those ranges. i should be alive for another 44 days so if you need help in that time ask, i am a mechanic) now in order to die you need 25 ppm of carbon monoxide...and i am not an emissions specialist, and every engine burns differently but this should reopen the ability to go peacefully this way. i am going to include a link for someone in a different country from me doing this on a car we don't even have here...the guy in the video is not me so he might take it down if he learns what we are using it for or i wouldn't disclaimer it.

make sure all of the exhaust goes into the cabin, it isn't necessary but it is a necessary precaution, he opens the pipe at the end but there are multiple junctions along the exhaust most of them are easy to get to.

note I have only seen imperical on a very select types of American cars European and Chinese cars all use metric and I would bet aussie cars do too...if you don't feel like this will reach 25 ppm you can also burn charcoal in the backseat or a camp stove or other butane or propane flame. there are also some acids that release carbon monoxide...and if the ac is on for heavens sakes make sure it is recycling air and not blowing clean air in your face....one of the things I like about this method is that it is so easy to dismantle as well...so you can avoid getting involuntarily admitted more easily.

I can make a video of doing it on my car if you guy want me to just to show you a different kind of exhaust pipe configuration..I have a 1991 Toyota pickup so I wouldn't need to do this if it was my method, but I can still show you how I would do it if my catalytic converter was modern also if mufflers were for another reason mustangs and Camaros wouldn't have them because they go to great lengths to make those sound like they have older tailpipes for the sound and sensation.

Note: because of some confusion...you are using a pipe or hose to put the fumes in the cabin...but if you leave the ac on and have it on the wrong setting it will push clean air in your face and give a localized area of non lethal concentration of CO. also it will smell like normal exhaust..not much worse or better...like pumping gas almost...i know how it smells from working on cars not from doing this just in case you dont beleive me.

Thanks for taking time to write all of this out. With all the moving I've done over the past decade, my car feels like more of a home to me then any actual living space I can remember. It would be as good a place to CTB as any. Driving out to some secluded spot and trying something like this might be my method of choice in the future.

Sounds cheaper and easier to buy industrial CO gas, or a CO generator... but to each, their own.

its only cheaper if you don't need a car many people already have a car but less already have a generator or other gas source...for instance where I life a car is a necessity because its miles between everything...the library the McDonalds the nearest food source etc...whereas in heavily populated cities it might be more practical to just use another inert gas supply or CO generator. also it reopens the forgotten possibility of using your car to CTB, which apparently was forgotten due to new emission standards.

How would you suggest to do it for a 2006 (or 2007) Chevrolet Cobalt? How to make it possible as it probably has catalytic converter. Thanks in advance
I'd suggest driving it to a nice load and parking it, just clear your head.

If you're still set on it, drilling a hole directly into the pipe and through the floorboard would suffice.

Another day a guy posted two news about this method.
Two cars were totally buried under a huge amount of snow, but seem to be two accidents or owner's mistake, no suicides.
These cases are very graphics.
From the mistakes it is possible learning a lot.

its sounds complicated for your average joe, catalytic converter look different for different models, and i also heard that there are multiple ones that measure different exhaust. some require cutting and hoisting the car up. Gas generator with hearing protection in small car?
in 2017 the UHM made a report on CO levels for intentional poisoning they looked at a 1971 volkswagen super beetle and a 2003 BMW Z4; also 2.3 pounds of charcoal briquettes, gas generator, leaf blower and lawn mower the experment was performed in a 1 car detached garage constructed of wood framing volume 73m3

at 10 minutes the gas generator was off the 999PPM scale; leaf blower was at 300PPM the 1971 bug was 100PPM and the BMW never went above 30PPM during the entire 20 minutes

sorry for the delay I didn't see this...most car exhaust systems are the same...and so although you have a different number of exhausts and the car in the video its the same procedure... the catalytic converter is the part of the pipe that bulges, almost always at the end of the exhaust...so just interrupt the pipe near the middle or beginning and you will get it right 90% of the time.

thanks for attaching the study...neither of the leaf blower or gas generators have good catalytic converters the two German cars both do and the emission test was with the engines as is...remove the converter and the air doesn't get cleaned down.
the way you put it does sound complicated but for the most part that's other mechanics self aggrandizing so they can charge more...been there done that.... I have not worked on any supercars so for them it prolly would be really complicated so if you have a lambo just buy a generator. but it is almost always as simple as it is in the video unless you strip one of the nuts, if you do that then you start involving cutting also if there is not enough space to work on the bottom of your vehicle just about every vehicle comes with its own jack that will buy you enough space. I have not seen a car that you could not just loosen those two bolts and pull the pipe-unless somebody strips a bolt or the bolts are rusted into one lump. also keep in mind you are dealing with much less space than a garage if you use a hose or pipe, and this method is not instant like jumping.
it isn't more complicated than changing a tire, and if anything strips or breaks just grab a drill grinder or saber saw (or any metal damaging tool of your choice) and either chop the bolts off or make a hole in the side of the exhaust and stick potatoes in the pipes to plug them.

I was just saying sounds little complicated, but something to look into, depending on the make and model of the car would driving it around be an issue? as the muffler does not hold the converter, you would be taking out the converter and the muffler? do the car still be derivable ?

Also that case study was for a rather large space 73m3, a small car is something different but something to be concerned with is the levels did not reach where they needed to be after 10 minutes, only gas generator got anywhere near that, now if you took the space in half would that double the PPM?

also would you need to prep a car, air tight windows lower seating, I have seen reports of people with small charcoal buckets in a car with no prep work??

any thoughts

absolutely all of those methods work...I made this thread for two reasons 1i had a chat with anna-morphosis and she said I should make sure to make this thread, and 2 this is one off the most peaceful and comfortable ways to go...if done properly its like a suicide pod or an escape pod of sorts...and I learned that this method was getting written off because of emissions standards which means you have to choose a less peaceful method...and I wanted to tell people that it is in fact still possible to reverse the safety measures that keep it from killing you-because not everybody has a generator or propane stove or other source of carbon monoxide but most people (in these parts of the globe anyways) have a car.

now some of the cars do put the catalytic converters outside the muffler itself (its a 2 part system so they do do both) which is why I recommend going much earlier on the pipe than the guy in the video...the junctions are all identical through the length of the pipe, but the earlier the better. if the catalytic converter is prior to the muffler assembly and not strictly part of it you will see a bulge in the pipe... the first easily accessible junction is there so that mechanics can replace a busted cat converter easily (im sure they will eventually make that hard to get to as well)

so basically the first junction you can get easily do that one and you are fine.

also a generator stove or other co source works just fine you can put it in the back of the car and do that I do recommend it...just to speed things up and for insurance if no other reason do both if you want, light yourself on fire or jump off a cliff. its your death personalize it a bit. I just want help people know that this is more comfortable and cheaper than nitrogen and a bag, which has become the substitute for this it looks like.

the generator in car would make it unpleasant extremely you would need hearing protection, also what about the other fumes? any issue?

and you would need to wait outside for a good 10 minutes or more, also need a CO meter

Also with the charcoal method, which sounds more peaceful but i would worry about proper level or reaching a PPM to minimize anguish, i can not understand how some people have accomplished this in cars or bath rooms.

modifying your own car would be ideal, the engine is on the outside and you can concentrate your efforts on making the car pleasant and sealing it up properly

what about purchasing an older car?

also i have seen allot of reports on industry changing gas generators, matter of time before they have there own converters and shut off systems?? its kinda bullshit really.

any thoughts?
