So I have my first session of DBT therapy this week. Could anyone tell me how this diffrers from the usual talk therapy?

DBT is typically skills-based, structured, and follows a specific protocol; it's less about processing whatever things bring someone to therapy and more about learning how to deal with those things.

Talk therapy is unstructured, free-flowing, where the patient chooses what to talk about in the session; talk therapy involves processing.

Good luck with it. I'm due to try this but I probably won't.

@Norest4thewicked - I hope it goes well for you. I was in three partial hospitalizations where they did a lot of DBT, and I found some of the skills useful, it takes a while to get them to be habit.

@Jc40 - if you do give it a try, I hope it goes well for you, too.
