haven't seen this method being discussed but i just saw a vid on wpd of a guy in brazil who visited a shooting range and shot himself with the gun provided. idk if shooting ranges in the uk use real guns with live ammunition but either way this idea is so smart

hmm, it's been talked about a few times, but it's a very selfish and almost taboo method. a lot of people on here really don't want to implicate other people (especially innocent ones) in their suicides, so shooting ranges are kind of disliked from what i've seen. i dunno if you have the search feature yet, but there's 10 pages of people discussing ranges. ^_^;

also, a lot of places make you bring a "buddy" and won't let people shoot alone, at least in the USA.

i think the method would work, but it's very very distasteful to do, but i understand where those people are coming from.

Yeah i read posts on shooting ranges needing to shut down after a suicide was done inside them. That feels selfish to me ngl

Nah bad idea, UK ranges will have safety protocols out the wazoo & the instructors will be on the ball at all times.

Maybe you could do it at less sophisticated ranges like those in Southeast Asia but UK? No way. You're far more likely to end up in a MH facility.

There are some ethical concerns regarding directly implicating strangers in your suicide. But from a purely selfish standpoint, it's a bad idea because you will get immediate medical attention, and could end up a disfigured vegetable. It's probably better to ctb when you are alone.

My concern is that it would traumatize the other people at the range particularly the employees

A risk of injuring someone else. Or worse. Hard to control that.

This. I used to work at a gun range and this scenario was our biggest fear. We took several classes on dealing with mental health criseses (crisis-eees, crises-iii ?? Hell, I dunno what the proper plural is) and learning to spot the customary "tell-tale" signs, as well as how to approach someone we thought might be in a bad place and get them some help, along with how to treat gunshot wounds, keep airways open, etc. -- everyone on every shift had a specific task, and we knew what that task was so there was absolutely no wasted time from the second we knew you had shot yourself until the ambulance got you and took you away. Might surprise you to know this, but a lot of first responders moonlight at gun ranges (and between their personal FAK and what the store kept on site, you got top-notch care as soon as you hit the floor. Before the person dialing 911 got dispatch on the phone. (We didn't have a suicide while I worked there but we did have a few accidents -- a couple of them pretty serious, so we got our actual boots-on-the-ground practice in. Only way you could have been in better hands is if you did it standing in the middle of an ER.)

That range has also had a couple of suicides at it since it opened back in the 70s??, I think ?? 🤷🏻 The times I spoken to any of the employees there about it (this one happened after I left there but I still talk to a few of the guys semi-regularly because we all run in the same circles) they have blamed themselves (I was doing 2 things at once, "didn't see any signs", "he was actually a pretty happy dude", knew what he was renting -- like he wasn't a complete novice coming in alone wanting to rent the biggest handgun on the rack kinda thing. One of the guys who was working that day and had had direct contact with the fella that offed himself drank himself to death over the next couple of years. He was the kindest, gentlest man you would ever want to meet -- family man, new grandchild, no way he deserves his life being destroyed because someone else wanted to leave this world. Sigh.

So, yeah, as far as I am concerned, killing yourself at a gun range is one of the most selfish acts any of us can attempt. You will end way more lives (figuratively and maybe even literally) than just yours.

Yeah don't do that. There are many ways to go about it that don't implicate others.
