I was watching a TV programme earlier and this came on it Alcor it just reeked of scam to me.
It costs $200,000 for a full body or $80,000 just for your head. Supposing it is successful in the distant future and you are revived, what kind of life would you expect to be having? Any family or friends that you had would be long gone. Any money that you have would probably be worthless.
Imagine if someone from one hundred years ago were to appear today, I think they would be terrified, there was no television one hundred years ago, let alone mobile phones.
I find it sad that people are unwilling or unable to accept that death is a part of life, I don't think I would like to be around in one hundred years from now.

Hi Johnny the Fox!

If you like to read sci-fi,Larry Niven has written a couple of stories about this topic.
When I was a teenager I was a huge sci-fi fan, and he was one of my favorites.
He wrote a novel called "A World Out of Time" which covers a lot of your points. It's a good read if you haven't already read it.

I totally agree with your point about death being a part of life, and trying to accept it.

And the future could and probably will be a damned scary place IMO.

A comic called "Transmetropolitan" tackled this issue too a bit. People thawed from cryonics in a future that they didn't understand and basically kicked out on the street because, well, people didn't care that much for them. The few chapters tackling this were.. Hard. But in some sense, that whole comic was hard, even if it is extremely exaggerated and everything, it tackled real socio-political issues. I'd recommend it to anyone, interested in this or not. Though the whole main character being Hunter S. Thompson in the FUTURE can be something a lot of people don't seem to really like.

In all honesty. Yeah, I don't understand why anyone would do this. Seems like a really, really bad idea.

If I had millions, i'd probably do this. It would be interesting to see if medicine in the future could cure my illness, and if I couldn't figure out a way to make a life, I could just ctb. At least i'd get to see the distant future for a bit, which I think would be pretty cool.

I think i read something before about the staff at Alcor being caught playing football with one of the frozen heads,
Or they were throwing it to each other or something.
Slayer wrote a song about Cryonics,i'll leave it here for the 100's of Slayer fans here!
