I'm sure this must have been researched already: suicidology is quite good at establishing meaningless correlations for lack of an actual causal model.
I'm not about to emerse myself in this muddy subject. This answer on Quora (
https://www.quora.com/How-do-intelligence-and-suicidal-tendency-correlate?share=1) suggests there is a positive correlation for both high and low IQ with suicide.
Apparantly both the stupid and the bright are generally more prone to it. Which makes sense: if you're not that smart and have to live in this highly technological world where science and technology are worshipped and a bachelor's degree is deemed necessary even for office work you're probably not going to be very cheerful. I can't imagine having to do repetitive, meaningless, stupid shit all day, go home exhausted trying in vain to regain one's spirt knowing full well the next day is going to be exactly the same. If you are highly intelligent on the other hand you're more likely to have high expectations which might lead to suicidal ideation upon failure or frustration. Not to mention you'll probably realize life isn't going anywhere and it's the same old circle over and over again untill you die.
Of course this is all speculation on my part.
I do not understand how anyone can become despondent purely based on the state of the world, society, culture... without it affecting one personally. At least I'm not altruistic enough to identify with people I've never even met before nor do I want to kill myself because another airhead got elected who'll do nothing but fuck over the people including the fools who voted for him.
