Suicide is so often painted as a rash mistake that people make in the heat of a moment, but I've thought about it consistently for years, weighing pros and cons to make a decision that reflects whether growing old is something I want. I've been able to talk to my closest friends about it, and they understand why it's something I want to do. They've said they'll miss me, but they understand why I want to go. I haven't been able to do that with my parents and sibling, and that's the biggest holdup I have right now.
How can I talk with the people who brought me into the world about why I don't want to be here? Has anyone been able to share what they're going through with their families to prepare them? I know that there aren't many families who would be open to having the conversation at all because of the stigma and absurd laws that criminalize suicide, but if anyone has any advice about helping them understand it's not their fault, I'd really appreciate it...
