I tested carotid compression with the torniquet method (bathrobe belt and wooden spoon). I tied a simple reef knot in the back and turned the spoon counter-clockwise. It did feel quite unpleasant but it wasn't necessarily painful. I got to a point where it fight really tight after a few full turns and my face felt very numb and tingling. I felt slightly dizzy as well for about ten seconds before I unwound the spoon. I think if I turned the spoon a bit more and forced more pressure, I probably would have blacked out and subsequently died.
