my doctor isn't physically forcing me into therapy but he does control my pain meds so I generally do what he says. he has his assistant coming to my house tomorrow to arrange for me to see a therapist, I've been resisting a long time but even though I say i'm safe for now he says i'm in crises and need to go, i'm also afraid if I don't cooperate he may do worse like hospitalization

Doctors are like the Mafia. I avoid them as much as possible. Can't you see another, more liberal doctor?

What he is doing to you is inexcusable. A total abuse of power. You should have every right in the world to say no!

I see. He should respect your decision, though. Even if he's otherwise competent, withholding mediation to force therapy is fucked up. Have you talked to him directly?

What country are you in? It can't be the US, docs don't do house visits here. But depending on the area the doctor may be required to take action to protect themselves from litigation if they are worried for your safety... I mean they thought you were in a crisis and you're clearly thinking of suicide so they aren't exactly wrong.

However, I do believe you have the right to make your own decisions and should be able to tell them no. Tell them you're not sure therapy is right for you just yet and ask if there is something else that you can do instead. That way it's on them to come up with something else that is acceptable to you.

There was a point in my life where I thought therapy was a huge answer to many problems and could help everyone. It did make an extraordinary difference in my life for 6 years. However, I went out of my own desire no one forced me. I hope you find something beneficial out of it. From experience, every therapist is not a good fit for ever person. I wish you luck
