Clickbait and AI ads/articles are too much

Part vent. Part does anyone else feel this?

How unrealistic are all the clickbait/influencer ads and articles and videos all over websites now. Whether AI or just plain ridiculous claims. How do people fall for them? How can they even be working to generate clicks/money. Just make accessing any real information harder and harder. The certainly put me off of using any websites that have loads of ads and actively choosing NOT to give in to anything that smells of clickbait.

Anyone sharing real/scientific information gets totally lost because they are (have to be) honest with limitations of current understandings and studies. Influencers and clickbait can just shout absolute crap with no accountability and usually any attempt at references are circular (one article referencing a second one, which uses the first as its reference). I swear there's influencers making a deal about 'news' that was 'new' 10 years ago.

Urgh . Just another of my many annoyances with the mess that is society. Making everything worse/compounding issues everywhere while 'decision makers' look the other way (in the direction of their mates who are lining their pockets) and act surprised when things are claimed to be falling to shit when it seems to be going so well for them and their pals.

Maybe society has always had the problem of the calm, rational, thoughtful voices being drowned out by the loudest, but I do think social media and genAI have compounded the issue by orders of magnitude. Critical thought is dead.

I echo your sentiment, but the thought just struck me: If we recognize the bullshit, what makes us think others don't? Are they really generating significant clicks/money, or are they just desperately competing for scraps, provided by a vulnerable minority?

There's no doubt that people could be wiser and more critical, but I have a hard time believing that most people are falling for the flood of garbage. Whenever I hear anything about it, it just seem to annoy other people as much as myself.

It's a pet hate of mine too. The adverts definitely but, from the copyright side to it too. I don't like the way they are using AI to narrate things in famous voices eg. Sir David Attenborough, Sir Anthony Hopkins. That's wrong on so many levels.

Some things, I do actually love the idea of. There is one channel that creates video shorts of a movie/ series cast then and now. They get angel wings if they're deceased. It's a lovely idea I think and, it's well done in terms of the setting and flow- they are usually walking through the set of the series/ movie. But then, in almost every one, there are glarring mistakes. Seems weird to me- to put that time and effort in but then- not do proper research.
